Livid. Mayor de Blasio blasting public defenders for calling the NYPD out on their transparent lies & cherry-picking of data to advocate for more jailing of Black & Brown people. I’ll say it again: the NYC mayor is the biggest threat to racial & pretrial justice in NY state.
Also: Can @BernieSanders please disavow his endorsement? An insult to advocates, organizers, & directly impacted people in NYC and throughout the state.
For months, @NYCMayor has been out fighting against decades long efforts just weeks after reform began. Advocating to give judges more power than ever before to jail Black & Brown people. Peddling debunked lies by the NYPD. Favoring procarceral interest over community. 
Within just a couple weeks the NYPD Commissioner was out cherry-picking crime data. Bipartisan @verainstitute came out with a scathing report slamming the inaccuracy & fearmongering: “His selective use of shortrun statistics doesn’t support this statement.” But Mayor supports it.
Even the @NYDailyNews Editorial Board slammed the lies: “NYPD Chief Dermot Shea is wrong to blame the crime spike on a change in the state’s bail law that took effect Jan. 1. Such cause-and-effect assertions should not be made lightly.” nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-edi…
Why not underscore NYC as one of safest cities in the world? Why not tout that NYC major felony crime rates dropped 82% while incarceration dropped by 74% in NYC over last 3 decades? Why not hail the thousands now w/ their families instead of Rikers hell. nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-ope…
