#Fort thread on this occasion. Forts remain the best connection to the legacy of our Raje.
Starting with Purandar. Cannot stress enough how important this fort was for the Swarajya. In line of sight with Rajgad (the capital for 23 years before it moved to Raigad). Two treaties signed here - Raje himself once & Nana Phadnavis later.

A different region next. Hadsar fort. This one is in the Junnar region. Close to Shivneri fort. Absolutely stunning area to visit during the monsoons. Fort overlooks the trade route via Naneghat.

Sarasgad aka Pagadicha Killa owing to it's peculiar shape resembling a Pagadi. The base village is Pali, one of the Ashtavinayaka temples. Support fort for bigger Sudhagad nearby (this fort was one of two shortlisted for the new capital; other was Raigad)

Ghangad. Another support fort for Sudhagad. Side note: the fort of Sudhagad is known to be a haunted place. The other one I hear about often is the Visapur fort. Some locals advise against night stays here!

Lohgad. The twin of Visapur fort mentioned above. This fort is a beginner's delight during monsoons. Super drive on old Pune-Mumbai h'way, ancient Bhaje caves near the base, a fairly simple trek, reverse flowing waterfalls at the top & the stunning views!

Another twin fort set-up in same Lonavala region is the Rajmachi area. Shrivardhan & Manaranjan forts. Recent visit pics here -

Another similar set-up (not quite a twin) in the same area: Tung-Tikona.

Along with Lohagad-Visapur, these two forts oversee the Maval region and the Pavana river & dam area.

This temple has THE MOST BEAUTIFUL idols of Ram-Sita-Lakshman-Hanuman. It's the highest Hill in the area, it doubles as a sunset pt 😄
Climb up the Hemakuta hillock overlooking the Virupaksha temple and this tiny temple has Hanuman ji again 😄🙏

When Lokmanya Tilak gave the call for Sarvajanik Ganapati celebrations in 1893, one of the first few people to answer his call outside MH were from Hyderabad..! In 1894, the Marathi speaking population of Hyd started Public celebrations of Ganapati at 2 locations.
One was at Shah Ali Banda. Arya Samaji Gore Shastri of Vaidik Dharma Prakashika installed the Ganapati near Akkanna Madanna temple. The other was installed by students of Osmania University in the Deodi of Bellap Hanumantha Rao near Hari Masjid Sultan Bazar.

Shivaji Maharaj was the most important figure in Hindu history for the last 500 years. Had this man not existed, what would have happened to Hindus is a ghastly thought. So on his Jayanti let us pay tribute to somebody we can never be too grateful to.
Whenever I mediate upon him I come away with two impressions. One is an Implacable Will. The other is a bubbling cheerfulness. The man was a joy to be round there can be no doubt of that, and this may account for the remarkable loyalty he used to inspire in people.
When needed, he could be hard like few people were capable of. Afzal Khan tried to provoke him into open warfare by demolishing the Tuljapur Bhavani temple but he refused to fight on ground that was advantageous to the foe.

Today marks the day Godse shot Gandhi ji dead.
Godse did this because he believed he was a patriot, Gandhi ji a traitor and "traitors should be shot dead" - desh ke gaddaron ko goli maaro.

In classrooms we need to teach children who killed Gandhi ji and why. Godse killed Gandhi ji because he, Godse, hated Muslims and hated Gandhi for wanting Muslims to be equal citizens of India.
It's not important to deify Gandhi ji - many (Bhagat Singh, Ambedkar, for eg) disagreed with Gandhi ji in his lifetime. But they did not kill him or want him dead. Godse did.

Today, I’m gonna make a #thread on controversial #temple #khajuraho. A temple which is famous for its erotic and sexual sculpture and has been targeted by left liberals on its meaning and importance.

However, it may shock you, if I say sexual themes @LostTemple7

He was in charge of many Successful Expeditions. In 1660s, after assassination of Afzal Khan by Shivaji Maharaj, Maratha Empire was attacked by Adilshahi Forces led by Siddi Johar. They seiged Fort Panhala from outside where Shivaji Maharaj had gone to stay.
