This is the Nudge unit “behavioural scientists” talking on the record to @BBCMarkEaston about the plan for most population to get “herd immunity” - which I think means getting Coronavirus, while protecting the vulnerable - ie elderly via “cocooning”

Former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt tells @jonsnowC4 he is surprised by the Government’s response and asks to see the behavioural scientists modelling, which suggests people will get bored of isolation... says other countries have limited outbreak
So this is indeed the plan - that it spreads at a rate slow enough not to overwhelm the NHS [flattening the curve], and lack of critical care beds/ ventilators, but fast enough that 60% population gets “herd immunity” and avoids a second peak in winter:
