So the craziest thing just happened to me today.

I meant to transfer N15k to a colleague NA yesterday and typed the account number. Logged into my banking app initiated transfer and completed transaction.

If only I knew...
Then today my colleague whom I was to transfer to buzzed and said she had not received the money. I’m like I transferred to you nau.

And then she is like hope you didn’t transfer to someone else oh!

That’s when all the hairs on my body rose. How can?
I scroll through my phone to see who i transfers to.

Money went to some Dagachi Moha dude I have never heard of in my life before and not to NA. I couldn’t believe my eyes. 🙆🏽‍♂️🙆🏽‍♂️

I logged into online banking as the text might be an error.
Online banking shows the same Dagachi Moha. Now I’m on panic mode so I quickly called my account officer to complain.

He promises to check and call back.

Alerts only show name of who you transfer to but no acct nos. I still wonder why banks do this?

Anyways...he calls me back.
“Oga the money was transferred to someone in a Northern State with the same identical account nos.”

How is that possible I quipped? I thought NUBAN meant you had your own account nos and no one else shares with you.

I learned something new today.
Apparently, btw FirstBank & UBA some acct nos are identical and only differ by their account names and bank.

So if you are unlucky like me and you meant to transfer to acct nos 1234567890 in UBA but maybe selected FirstBank, it will credit someone else with same acct nos.
I tried to recover my hard earned N15k but my account officer explained that it appears the Dagachi guy immediately withdrew the money after he saw the alert. 😭😭😭

I understand his account has had near zero balance for a protracted period.
He must have looked to the high heavens and thanked the heavenly for such a blessing.

As God will have it here is what I had as narration for the transfer.

I hope the guy finds the money useful.
In business someone’s gain can either be another’s loss or value.

Apparently my experience is a well documented fact that the CBN and banks know about already. 🙆🏽‍♂️🙆🏽‍♂️🙆🏽‍♂️
