So what does this disclaimer mean? What are the assumptions underlying modelled emission reduction pathways & why are they not driven by equity-based considerations like burden of energy transition on poorer countries?
Let's start with how models call for a rapid & drastic decline in only one fossil fuel which is primarily used in the developing world i.e. coal. A recent study by @FuelOnTheFire questioned the socio-political feasibility of such pathways & the leeway they provide for oil & gas
The #AR6 #SYR is groundbreaking in its examination of issues of equity and climate change. For the first time, the report emphasizes the unequal historical and ongoing contributions, and differential vulnerabilities within and between nations/regions/peoples. (1/n)
The report highlights that climate change has been driven by unsustainable energy use, land use, and consumption patterns across regions. Unequal contributions have arisen due to differences in countries' activities, and some have contributed far less than others. (2/n)
Vulnerable communities who have historically contributed the least to climate change are disproportionately affected, both in terms of who is impacted and the severity of impacts. This stark reality underscores the need for fair burden-sharing. (3/n)

2/13. The #AR6 Synthesis Report and it's Summary for Policymakers will condense all of the scientific evidence from the reports of the @IPCC_CH working group's and all special reports published between 2018 and 2022.

The report synthesizes scientific knowledge on past emissions and future emission pathways, emission reduction options, climate change policies, their financing and the innovations they require.

Tout d'abord, quelques mots sur le travail de @GretaThunberg sur ce livre. Il ne s'agit pas de sa seule plume, la jeune militante a souhaité constitué un recueil de textes scientifiques couvrant les plus larges thématiques possibles associées au #climat et ses conséquences (2/n)
Greta Thunberg a donc écrit différentes préfaces, au livre comme à ses sections, ainsi qu'une postface concluant l'ouvrage. En lisant sa plume, sommes loin des préjugés médiatiques et punchlines des réseaux sociaux. Le ton est nuancé, les propos renseignés. (3/n)
