At Heathrow. Spookily empty except for the totally full Warsaw flight - because borders are closing tomorrow. Booked my ticket even while the PM was still making his speech.
Unclear when we will be able to fly out again. The political irresponsibility that led to this drama is incredible.
People without Polish passports or residency docs are not being allowed on the plane
Now it seems that rule applies only from tomorrow. Captain asking two non-Polish passengers if they still want to fly, given that it is unclear if and when they will be able to leave again

Hungary declares a form of martial law
to clarify: this is still a government bill, not the law yet
however, I am told that it will require only a 2/3 majority to pass, which the government has. So it will be law on Monday.

and remember: South Korea is a democracy. Their strategy did not require drastic, authoritarian measures.
They did have - which we no longer do - public institutions and government departments staffed by the top experts in their fields, and elected officials willing to listen to them. They did not have a president whose main concern was himself.
and yes, their tactics contain the seeds of future problems: huge new databases, surveillance, tracking of people. There, and everywhere, managing these new powers will be the next big challenge for democracies

Totally off topic except it’s totally on topic: last 4 days I’ve been back in uniform cuz the St Patrick’s Day drama but working in the detective’s office. The whole department is in uniform & therefore able to hit the streets if it gets chaotic. And that makes sense...
Yet the detective’ is typically not in uniform. In fact, it’s a sense of professional and sartorial pride to be out of ‘the bag’ or uniform. It conveys a sense of ‘otherness’ from patrol. And suspects & regular neighbors know the fashion divide....
But these last four days I’m being fancy pants detective while in my anti-fancy pants uniform and it’s so cool. It’s like a challenge but with hidden power points. People think I’m basic (cuz I am) but I got the time to question them anti-basic (cuz I’m not). I have to earn it.

"You can't come, TehTeh," Jeongguk tells him as he packs his little Cinnamoroll backpack, putting in the most vital essentials of survival.

Colouring pencils, his DS, spare pair of undies, three different kinds of lollipops and a plastic fork.

He's always prepared.
"Why not?" Taehyung squeaks, his own Pompompurin backpack hanging limp in his hand.

Jeongguk adds a pack of stickers, just in case. Never know when you're gonna need them.

He sighs, conflicted. This is tough.

He needs to be delicate about this. "They don't like you."

Okay.
"They don't like me?" Taehyung repeats. "Why not?"

"They think you're scarwy." Jeongguk sighs.

Taehyung processes that, looking down at himself. He looks at his sharp black claws and and tongues over his fangs.

Pft.

He /knows/ he looks cuddly.

So now watching “Dark Water”, the first part of the two-part eighth season finale.

“Clara?”
“It was boring.”
“Boring?”
“It was ordinary.”

Clara is a fascinating companion, in large part because she’s essentially riffing on the sense of entitlement that Rose felt.
“He deserved better. And so did you.”
“I don't deserve anything. Nobody deserves anything.”
“But I am owed better. I am owed.”

Clara is selfish and self-centred. But she’s aware of that, and the show is aware of that.

These traits are explored as developed. They make her human.
