The more I’m reading this, the angrier I’m getting, not just because of the mess we’ve been out in, but because cleaning and screening are things our schools could have been doing long before a pandemic hit.

I worked during multiple snow storms.
I’m one of the first people into school and one of the last folks out.
We’re not martyrs. We’re doing the job that the unwritten social contract asked us to do in schools like ours.

I inherited a legacy or Black/Latinx educators who knew what it meant to teach not regardless, but because of the conditions we’re steeped in.
There aren’t enough proclamations and oratory devices that can encapsulate teaching under such virulent times even before this virus.

As a public school parent and teacher, I need all of us to be mindful of as many lives as possible, but also to multitask and show love and respect to those parents, educators, and students who’ve ALWAYS had to scrap for even an inch of attention to their plight.
