Hey friends. It's my job to be online. and that kinda sucks right now. But from one online person to another, whether it's your job or not, here are some

❤️social media consumption tips❤️

in these trying times.

👇
1. Action 💪

I'm sure we all feel powerless right now on social, but there ARE practical actions you can take!

- Donate: who.int/emergencies/di…
- Order delivery from a small restaurant
- Offer to help vulnerable ppl get supplies
- Social distancing!
2. Set times ☀️

A constant flux of news won't change anything, and will just make you more nervous.

Instead, check news at set times during the day, once or twice.

DO NOT refresh the page for more once you feel done scrolling through the feed.
3. Don't binge browse 🚨

We've all gone online to check something and ended up scrolling through Twitter endlessly an hour later.

Be purposeful when you're on a site. Tweet what you must, then close the tab immediately until the next interval.
4. Feeling blocked 🥀

It's hard to feel creative, funny, or positive right now in social copy/work. That's okay. You don't need to be those things. Don't put that pressure on yourself. You're human.

What we need to be is kind, compassionate, and mindful of what media we share.
5. Your newsfeed is a temple 🏯

Mute accounts, temporarily or not. Or unfollow! This is YOUR feed. Are they causing more frustration or distress than joy? Do you just not care?? Get rid of it!!

Also: look for trusted sources and practical tips on news, not rumors or opinions.
6. It's ok to not tweet 🙏

It's ok to miss out on a conversation. You don't need to have an opinion everytime!!

Try to be conscious of what you consume AND what you put out. If it'll stress you out more than anything, out it away. Take a breather and make some tea.
7. Find what is purposeful VS muscle memory 🧠

Because of work, I don't delete social apps off my phone. BUT I will shuffle them around, take them off the home screen, etc.

I realized by MUSCLE MEMORY I'll absentmindedly tap the spot that usually had the app. Eek. Unhealthy!
8. External apps 💾

Many people use time tracking sites/website blockers to limit social media time. Do this if it helps you!

Basically, the purpose of this and #6 is to make you more mindful, realize what's become a habit, and make your usage more purposeful.
Anyways, those are just some suggestions. :)

I know a lot of comms people feel quite lost. You're not alone! It's a weird time!!

And if you need to be brave today, I hope you can be.
