Today's daily briefing starts soon. Live-stream here: novascotia.ca/stayinformed/w…
The briefing is delayed for a technical issue, not because the premier is late (although that may be the case as well)
Starting now.
17 new cases, all travel-related or related to previous cases. He says there is still no community spread.
Strang: "we anticipated this. We knew large numbers of people were travelling coming back... this shows that the system is working"
Strang: "on average, for each case there are just under 2 close contacts... many close contacts are people in the household."
Strang: we may well see some community spread, but we're 2-3 weeks behind some of the other provinces, so we may be able to limit community spread.
Strang: "if we stick to this the next few weeks... we can minimize the spread in Nova Scotia"
Strang: "by all means, go for a walk, go for a bike, but maintain that social distancing" but if you're self-isolation, stay in your home/yard/balcony.
Strang: it's OK, it's natural to be afraid. To get a sense of control helps manage fear, and you can do that by doing the things we recommend, hand-washing, social distance.
McNeil: no one should feel like they're in this alone. Reach out and talk to people.
McNeil reiterates what essential services are. They are exempt from 5-person rule. "Work is not social."
McNeil is worried about the price of lobster, says if it stays low it could very much hurt the economy.
Well, I got a question in, but on followup someone on the conference call failed to mute their phone, so no one could hear me and they had to end the call.
My question concerned price-gouging. The premier said he hasn't seen any. Please send your contra examples to me. The law prohibits any price increases during a state of emergency.
