Shopping for other people is harder than you'd think.
Makes me wonder if organising half a million volunteers might also be a bit harder than initially thought. Brilliant in theory, not necessarily easy to operate...

Many similar stories on equipment / volunteers for the NHS. Suspicion of an overloaded and currently under-powered civil service struggling to turn ministerial promise into operation given these aren't actually simple issues.
Just to throw out a few issues - equipment has to actually be effective (for which we have regulations). Gov has to choose between suppliers. Costs will differ. Can factories actually produce (their own labour / social distancing)?
Meanwhile civil servants are getting used to home working, self-isolation, childcare, potentially care of vulnerable relatives. Individuals with specific relevant expertise (e.g. procurement of PPE) are probably thin on the ground and overworked. Others getting up to speed.

Want to know what's happening in the background on UK-EU future relationship talks? Thought not, but just in case...
What seems to be the case (and I have no better information at this moment) is that the rush to texts on both sides has merely emphasised big differences, which is exactly why so many of us were sceptical of doing this. Resolve problems before text.
My view remains this is ridiculous. Negotiate trade deal in record time plus for the UK implement new regulatory system while pandemic of uncertain duration rages and takes nearly all of a reduced government capacity in key roles. But that's where we are.

Thinking one of the short term effects of coronavirus on the UK economy will be to concentrate consumer spending for the duration of the lockdown in a handful of places - supermarket chains and Amazon.
We already had a high street problem in the UK and without further intervention / changes I'd expect this to get worse as a result of whatever length lockdown we have.
There are a lot of worries right now about the robustness of food supply chains if the lockdowns have to continue for a significant period of time. I'd hope this is something the UK government (and others) are actively planning. reuters.com/article/us-hea…

Free fuel for emergency services...this applies to Fleet vehicles feeling up with BP accepted fuel cards,through Govt Procurement.
This will allow stretched services to save budget&put towards staff overtime and extra shifts.There’s no such thing as “extra” police/paramedics 2/10
This doesn’t help Emergency Service staff in any way, it saves the government from paying fuel bill for a few weeks. As it stands, it’s a good sound bite and a PR strategy... “BP give free fuel to 999 services”. Wonderful, what could be better? 3/10

It seems time to (yet again) explain ranked choice voting game theory in the context of toppling a well-established incumbent, so...

When you have a ranked choice primary, there is no benefit to piling on resources to a well-resourced front runner.

It's actually harmful.
What does help, is running the primary in as egalitarian a manner as possible.

It benefits the front-runner (and all candidates) to graciously say "please lift us all up and choose the best among us."

What? Why?

Not only will you be more likely to put up the best candidate BUT
You'll earn the trust, supporters, and volunteers of primary competitors.

Instead of being disenfranchised from an unfair race silencing their champion...you instead have someone who lost fair and square, but will jump in to help you with the next round.

You heard their voice.

1. Kyle Sandilands, Alan Jones. Queensland turds who realised that having no moral compass can make you a shitload in Sydney’s media. Sydney people love a bit of controversy to spark up their dull, fucked up lives.
2. Gus Worland –Self styled “everyday bloke” who in reality went to Knox, one of Sydney’s most privileged schools. Entire brand built on knowing Hugh Jackman, despite Jackman never mentioning him. No talent. No wonder he got a gig on commercial radio and his own cricket TV show.
3. Scott Morrison – Self styled “everyday bloke” who in reality grew up in the eastern suburbs and went to Sydney’s most privileged public school. Moved to the Shire and overnight became an instant lifelong Sharks fan. Complete fraud. No wonder he got all the gigs.
