“Reports have reached me about heightened anxiety and fear over the possible exposure to, and the possible transmission of the Corona Virus Covid-19 to our volunteers during the outreach.” -Dr Inyang
“I was d team leader of the medical outreach that took place from March 9th to March 13th, 2020 at the Nig Police Hospital in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, working in collaboration with the Ibesikpo Asutan Association of California, where we saw and treated medical patients” Dr Inyang
“I have since had time to conduct a little more investigation of my own and ask a few more questions. I am told that this particular US volunteer did not have any symptoms during the period, she has remained symptom-free till this moment.” -Dr Inyang
“one of our local volunteers called me in the early hours of Friday, March 27, 2020 complaining of unremitting fever, and generalized body pains but that fortunately, there was no associated history of cough and shortness of breath.” Dr Inyang
“I am happy to report that the volunteer who complained to me this past Friday March 27th has fully recovered from all her symptoms, and so has her son, however, one cannot prove at this point whether her illness or symptoms were from Covid“ Dr Inyang
On the possibility of any issue associated with the outreach, he explained that “the outreach ended on March 13th, the incubation period for the virus is 14 days. So, anybody who has not had any symptoms as of this past Friday March 27th should be considered clear.”
Dr Inyang said further that he has been on daily contact with some of his Nigerian volunteers, and he has made himself readily available to the Akwa Ibom State Government Public Health department to answer any and all their questions in the quest to solve the problem.
Dr Inyang expressed regret that such false alarm tended to “mar the great work, and the great sacrifice that all the volunteers both from home and from the diaspora put in to alleviate the sufferings of their kinsmen.”
Dr Inyang appealed to “our brothers and sisters and our friends from the diaspora,that despite the current misgivings, that they will continue to have the humanitarian spirit, the milk of human kindness to continue to help our indigent folks at home who need our assistance.
“We will be welcome whenever we are able to return, to continue to help our kinsmen, after the dust of uncertainty from the current hysteria finally settles.” Dr Inyang
