I will start today's thread on #COVID in Iran, following up from yesterday's #irancorona
The GOOD
- Government in a complete reversal taken #COVID seriously
- As per contacts, many stay indoors if they can

The BAD:
- Explosion of cases in new cities
- Tehran seems to be next
- Extreme shortage of basic hygiene supplies
- Street collapses continue

Reports indicate brother of Justice Minister has passed away due to #COVID19 #irancorona (5 days ago)

Hard to confirm.

Official reports by the Health authorities in the Lorestan province on hospitalisation of a 4-year-old due to #COVID19 #irancorona

Reports indicate that Rasht's MP in the Gilan province, a #COVID19 hot spot, has requested to turn stadiums to hospital since all hospitals in this city are full of Corona patients.

I reported yesterday of critical conditions in Rash hospitals.

Things in Kashan, a central city where it was declared "Alarm Level" due to #COVID19 (I reported yesterday), seems to be critical. Reports of at least 10 doctors infected.

Hard to confirm but reports of outbreak (and casualty) of #COVID in multiple prisons in Tehran and Urmia.

This tweet from Shiraz MP: (translation)

"@WHO should do something for Iran. #COVIDー19 There is an exponential need of diagnosis kit and disinfectant supplies. The reality is far more grave than the official numbers."

@WHO This week's government press conference will be carried out using video conference and not in person. #COVID2019

@WHO . @IranIntl which is an independent [pinch of salt] news TV channel, has been following number of confirmed #COVID deaths and the latest figure is now 416. Official report from the government authorities is 63.

@WHO @IranIntl On a lighter note, universities have stopped requiring presence in the classrooms and allowing the students to use E-learning. The quality of this e-learning is varied, this student's e-learning in Karaj seems to be just a picture of a handwritten sheet:

@WHO @IranIntl #BREAKING an exclusive report by @IranIntl claims that the authorities have been aware of #COVID deaths well before Revolution anniversary and election.

Citizens had been reporting suspect cases during those days.

@WHO @IranIntl This reports looks a lot more credible since an official ISNA news agency reporting that export of medical mask became illegal on 21st of Bahman, 1 day before the anniversary and 12 days before the election, when there was no official report on #COVID19

۵ -> 5
۶ -> 6
۷ -> 7
۸ -> 8
۹ -> 9
۰ -> 0

@WHO @IranIntl MP to Gilan province calls official number of casualties of #COVID19 as a joke saying authorities repeatedly fail to report real numbers to the public.

@WHO @IranIntl This English report from @iranwire is noteworthy as they have interviewed medical staff in the affected areas. It suggests there has been high number of deaths among younger patients too.

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire It would have been funny if it weren't for the gravity of situation, but an WHO staff in Iran is now infected with #COVID19

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire #BREAKING @WHO just arrived in Iran with 7.5 tonnes of supplies, equipment and #COVID19 diagnosis kits.

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire This damning piece on Bloomberg while harsh, seems to have more elements of truth that what was officially done and reported in Iran. #COVID19 #irancoronavirus

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire According to health officials, 40-45% of infections have occurred in the hospitals themselves. #COVID19 #irancoronavirus

[This is an outrage: lack of supplies for the staff and weak quarantine protocols]

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire One word on the economic impact of #COVID19 in Iran. There are several news on the government trying to come up with a plan to support businesses but not seen anything substantial yet.

Just read this article using Google translate to see what I mean.

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire A recovering #COVID19 patient being transferred from ICU to the general ward.

It is a touching scene. God bless the doctors and nurses, real heroes of #irancoronavirus

@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire Been asked to translated what goes on in the previous video:

Nurse: [introducing...] how do you feel now?
Patient: I feel better, I feel I am going back to life. First I am happy for it, second I do not know how to thank you for your selfless service.

#COVID #irancoronavirus
@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire Sadly, people do still collapse on the streets. This video from Mashhad (northeast) shows apparently a young person collapsing by the phone booth - most people own a mobile phone hence unlikely (though possible) that he was making a call. #COVIDー19 #irancoronavirus
@WHO @IranIntl @iranwire Thanks everyone for reading, I am wrapping up today's thread.

It could be late for Iran but do not let authorities in your countries do this to you. Stay safe!
