@rboudbee Not just "in a way"...but explicitly.
But maybe more precisely this:
Tacitus:That nation whose laws are most numerous is most corrupt.
One of the great holes Tr has taken advantage of is "There is no law against that". He "violates norms".
Personally I wish they would jetison
@rboudbee 2/ the term "norms" in favor of what is more fundamental: Principles. Norms sound so fungible. Which, I suppose, they are.
Point: The oath of office swears one to protect the Constitution. The C. is essentially the set of values/principles embodied as the structure of our
@rboudbee 3/ society. So, yes, IMO, we elect leaders to protect these values/principles.

When we get a interloper like a Trump in there, who is looking for a way to get around the system...he can.
Because,
Per above, we have become so legalistic, we are no longer governed by principles
@rboudbee 4/ principles as much as codified laws.

This syndrome is not a recent phenom. IMO, it is just that we never had someone so actually incompetent but also actively venal and so directly self-serving in the position.

The weakness in the system was always there.
We just have
@rboudbee 5/ hit the double-zero of a profoundly incompetent president AND an astonishingly incompetent and servile, partisan, Senate.
A system can handle some degradation & survive. It cannot handle all the systems failing at once.
This, I say, is our present condition.
@rboudbee 6/ We are like a plane that has had all of its hydraulics cut. (as happened in a united flight years ago. I can find the link if you wish). The backups failed because it was never considered possible all the lines would be cut at one time.

Anyway, a too long answer to yours.
