LONG THREAD For my @projectlincoln friends & other interested parties my #coronavirus story continues-a story that has become both hysterically funny&incredibly hard. Don’t tell me not to “politicize” things – this is real life. For many reasons we have to get Mom & Dad home.../1
85 & 83 yrs old, #parkinsonsdisease #dementia & other conditions. Mom too weak 2 walk. No clear guidelines on how 2 keep them safe. Rented an #RV for a 1200 mi drive hoping to control their exposure. Tried 2 prepare the #RV for all potential needs. 2/
Have you ever put a sheet on a heavy foam mattress that's shoved between the bathroom wall & the kitchen? It’s like trying to put stockings on an elephant.Upside down.Stocked the fridge, have masks&gloves, praying for clear roads.Biggest issue is Mom’s confusion&increased fear /3
And her toilet needs. It’s a 3-man job. Thank GOD for sis&her hubs following behind in the car. And #sundowners. I am living in fear of what will happen when the sun goes down. So, why is this political? Bc there is absolutely NO EXCUSE to put my parents through this trauma./4
Mom will never fully recover. Dad is in pain & trying to comfort Mom. I am furious. Is Trump responsible for #covid19? Of course not. Is he fully & completely responsible for the failed response that led to these extreme conditions? Absolutely. /5
While the list of #Coronavirus failures is long, the absolute worst are 1. His bullshit ban on china travel. Over 40,000 people traveled on direct flights from China to the US US AFTER his “ban” (NYT) &have gone ALL OVER the US & ban was TOO LATE - after 46 other countries! /6
2. It is a LIE that anyone can get a test. In fact, even people who need a test sometimes still can’t get one. We are nowhere near mass access to testing, no antibody tests available & Trump is now talking about “opening up” our country, without any plan on testing. /7
Mom was seriously ill w/acute bronchitis-no Dr would see her in office bc her symptoms were same as #covid19. I had to lie to get her a test to prove she didn’t have it so she could get treated. Her blood O2 dropped below 90 before she got care. She could have died. /8
She recovered, thankfully. But there are thousands of stories of people who have suffered medically because of #coronavirus without having it. Thousands have died & thousands more will. And it is ok to say the truth - Trump is responsible for the failures that have made it so.
I will keep you updated as we go. The goal is to #ArriveAlive without too much wear & tear. The fight to hold @realDonaldTrump accountable is not "politicizing" - it's about #truth - and truth still matters. #CountryOverParty @ProjectLincoln

END OF DAY 1 UPDATE of my #caronavirus story. Just a few bumps w/Mom. Nothing tragic. I am reminded again how enduring & healing a love like theirs can be. As long as Dad holds her hand, Mom feels safe. Never take for granted the power of holding eachother.
