The issue with states like Georgia re-opening has more to do with mean politics and nihilism than actually saving the economy.... And the numbers will bear that out
Red state governors know that 're-opening' businesses will take people off unemployment which in the short term saves the states some money. The long term impact will of course cost more. Much more, in human lives and actual tax dollars
First you have the increased risk of workers contracting #coronavirus which at a minimum will put them out of work for weeks, potentially cause long term physical issues that prevent them from doing their jobs (strokes, heart issues etc.) or possibly death
This will inevitably put additional pressure on state and private hospitals, which again will cost the state government. The benefits of 're-opening' businesses won't outweigh the costs of increased #Coronavirus cases across the state - Also because people won't come back
I understand the necessity of barbershops and hair salons, but my barbers actually have been doing house calls since March in anticipation of #CoronavirusPandemic and many client based businesses have moved in that direction as well
Moreover, many businesses even when they open up, people won't USE them. Why? Out of fear of contracting #COVID Are the sit-down meals at Applebee's so good you'd risk a debilitating disease? Probably not, so a re-open doesn't change the restaurant dynamic
Movie theaters? No chance under #COVID is over. I could get a personal call from the head of @Marvel tomorrow telling me there's a special screening of #BlackPanther 2: Bigger and Blacker at Lowes and I'm still not stepping in a theater again until sometime in 2021.....
In other words, Red State governor's are free to open whatever they want, but it won't make people risk their lives for some bottom line that ultimately won't make them safer
