The legal and institutional instruments to combat corruption and economic crime in Germany are still far behind other EU nations. In addition, in hardly any other European country it is still possible to handle large amounts of cash so unnoticed.
The suspected dark figures in economic, organized crime and corruption, which make up two thirds of total crime, are in some cases more than 90 percent, said Sebastian Fiedler, head of the Federal German Criminal Police Officer, in an interview.

also because the expected rush to the pub scene has so far failed to materialize. According to the assessment of the State Criminal Police Office in North Rhine-Westphalia, the likelihood is high that clans of Arab origin will now take advantage of these emergency situations.
"Organized criminals generally endeavor to quickly identify emerging crime markets and to flexibly achieve criminal profit from developing economic or social conditions," said LKA. "Against this background,
it was and is to be expected that criminals will develop criminal-relevant activities in the context of the so-called corona crisis." So far, however, there have been no concrete findings regarding the “takeover” of catering establishments by criminal members of family clans.
Politicians, according to the expert, are not sufficiently aware of the problem. And if the investigators were lucky enough to get information about black money transactions, dozens of transactions would be targeted.
It was about two years ago when 77 of the properties belonging to the Remmo clan were confiscated in Berlin. The suspicion: the purchases were financed with proceeds from crime.
However, the fact that only two properties have been ordered by the regional court for confiscation a month ago gives an idea of how difficult it is for investigators to substantiate their suspicions with facts.
In this case, the investigators succeeded in ensuring that the then 19-year-old buyer of the property had no significant regular income and that there was a strong disproportion to the purchase price of the property.
