🚨BREAKING: @realDonaldTrump's favorite drug–#hydroxychloroquine–did NOT prevent infection in people exposed to #coronavirus.

This randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial enrolled >800 adults who'd been exposed to someone with #COVID19.

The study randomized 800 participants to get either #hydroxychloroquine or placebo ("placebo-controlled") and was double-blinded (neither participants nor researchers knew what the participants received). This is the gold standard for clinical trials.

To date, no rigorous study has shown that #hydroxychloroquine is effective in treating or preventing #COVID19, and some studies have shown increased risk of potentially FATAL arrhythmias and DEATH.

There's ZERO reason for this drug to be given to patients infected with #COVID19.

▶️800 cases in a Singapore dorm
▶️80 cases at a music venue in #Japan
▶️Ships, nursing homes, meatpacking plants, ski resorts, churches, restaurants, hospitals, and prisons
Superspreading events are ill-understood and difficult to study, but there is a much higher risk in enclosed spaces than outside. Outside the #Wuhan region in #China, there were 318 clusters of ≥3 cases btwn 4 JAN and 11 FEB: only 1 originated outdoors.💥
