In #Beijing a new cluster of #covid19 cases emanating from, wait for it, a seafood market. Footage appears to show hundreds of People’s Armed Police sent to the Xin Fa Di wholesale market. Officials said traces of the #coronavirus found on a chopping board with “imported” salmon.
More than 10,000 staff at the Xin Fa Di wholesale market are to be tested for the #coronavirus. The latest three infections where all people who worked there. In a flash #Beijing has gone from more than 50 days with no case to 7 confirmed with symptoms + 46 confirmed asymptomatic
Because of the new #coronavirus In #Beijing various schools and kindergartens are closing again along with the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Lama Temple etc etc. Sport has been cancelled again. #China
This is a massive wholesale market, reportedly the largest in Asia. It’s not unlike the type of wholesale market you’d see in any country. Xin Fa Di Market is said to supply 80% of #Beijing’s vegetables and meat. #China #coronavirus #covid19
That traces of the #coronavirus were found on a chopping board used for “imported” fish doesn’t mean the virus came from the fish. It could just be that the person chopping it was infected? #China #covid19
#China's approach when these post-#Wuhan #coronavirus clusters have appeared, like in the Nth East, has been to lock down hard, squash it. So far this seems to have worked. This time could be a challenge. Imagine how many people have been in that massive market over recent days?
If we're blaming the salmon #Beijing's #covid19 outbreak I'm reminded of this from the Monty Python... QtoMrDeath: "How can we all have died at the same time?" Mr Death responds: "The salmon mousse" Husband: "Darling you didn't use canned salmon did you?"
Here are some of the clips of the People’s Armed Police marching into XinFaDi wholesale market earlier today. Pt 1... #China #Beijing #coronavirus #covid19

Today (Sunday) #Beijing officials reporting 36 “new” confirmed #coronavirus cases with symptoms. According to one Chinese media report, an official told them that “the vast majority” of these new cases have moved across from the confirmed but asymptomatic column. #China #covid19
Greatest emphasis, in terms of control measures, had been in the #Beijing district around where the huge XiFaDi wholesale market is + around a couple of other markets. There schools closed & housing areas sealed off to all but local residents.
Beautiful day in the Jing! Less cars on the road. Maybe people worried about heading out given the new #coronavirus cluster here? #China #covid19
The lesson from this is to be careful and not let your #Covid19 guard down even when it seems like the crisis is under control. Until we get vaccines rolling out the #coronavirus is going to keep coming back wherever you are. #China #Beijing
