Late every night -- as I finish sorting my photos at #Flickr -- a darkness comes over me. Often it comes without subject. This mood is impossible to visualize in a photograph because outsiders expect a cause for every #depression. There is none.

"Cautious" is the title I gave to the last photo. It's the proper state of mind for the times. We need to be cautious. I have been inside since the 7th of July due to #COVID19, avoiding my fellow human beings who walk around without masks, merrily spreading infection.

We now see that we are in an untrustworthy society, filled with citizens who would sooner murder than to take small steps to protect the lives of those around them. How America has transmogrified in these past four years!

Today we were told that masks were patriotic. But within a few hours of declaring this, the Usurper was back to not wearing one. A major Southern grocery chain dropped its mask requirement this very day. No has as yet called mask refusal a kind of flag burning.

Every day I hear the stories of crazed mask refuseniks screaming at baristas or chemo patients wearing masks. It has been clear that the right has made simple good-public-health sense political at the expense of millions of afflicted lives.

It does is no good to reflect on how evolution might play a part. The gene pool is not about to be purged of its #COVIDIOTS. Once we have acquired here immunity, many of the stupid will survive to continue to plague us.
