Looks like there is some form of #coronavirus outbreak in #Xinjiang’s #Kashgar. Housing apartment blocks reportedly on lock down. People need a nucleic acid test in order to fly out. #China
The #Kashgar Government says it has collected 300,000 #coronavirus test results as of 8am this morning and that city-wide testing will have been completed in just a few days. In the meantime school classes up to middle school to be suspended until the 30th of October. #China
This isn’t going to make sense & I don’t know how/why/what’s going on: officials in #Kashgar are now reporting 137 “asymptomatic” #coronavirus cases in that city and, wait for it, so far zero infections with symptoms. Surely they can see that this appears to be ridiculous? #China
4.7 million + people in #Kashgar region to be tested for #coronavirus. This has happened over several days and is planned to be finished by tomorrow. A strict stay indoors lockdown has been in place during the testing. People are hoping it’ll be lifted after that.
Given that this #Xinjiang outbreak apparently relates to a factory (or possibly 2 factories) where workers “live”, it’s possibly happened at a forced labour camp. This might explain why the #Kashgar authorities have declared ‘no worries all 138 infected people are asymptomatic’!
New #Xinjiang #Kashgar official figures re #coronavirus outbreak. 19 new "asymptomatic" cases added to the count (making the total 157?). 5 infections moved into the "symptomatic" column. Still remarkably few infected and considered to have symptoms. Make of it what you will.
