It's the 1st December and the countdown to Christmas has begun! But in the world of immigration, Christmas has come early as the jolly old Ho-Ho-Home Office has gifted everyone a "brand new" Points Based System
To celebrate, here at Latitude we'll be posting our very own video advent calendar throughout December. Each day a member of the team will reveal the meaning behind a piece of key terminology essential for the new sponsorship scheme.
First up, it's me, @SharaPledger, and I'll be explaining exactly what a Points Based System is. The PBS and sponsorship will become increasingly important for UK employers in coming months, as Brexit bites and more employees require specific permission to work
Join us again tomorrow when we'll dive a little deeper into the PBS...
Day 2 of our #AdventCalendar, and today our caseworker Sam explains the importance of a sponsor licence, especially as we move towards the New Year and #Brexit begins to bite

Ok, I've read all 132 pages of the new #immigration policy document. I was hoping for real insight into how things are going to be different from 2021, don't feel like I have that... #CheckChangeGo [thread 1/6]
It's quite odd that most of the identifiable changes are actually relaxations of current rules, like potentially positive changes to in-country switching, and to the 'cooling off' period for some applicants, introduction of the #graduate #worker route, etc [2/6]
However, it's even odder to have no mention of the 'sole representative' route, or the Investor #visa. If these route are just being closed from January 2021, that really needs to be said now. It's not like there wasn't space in that massive document to be clear about this [3/6]

Good morning, we hope that everyone is staying safe and well. Today's update from UKVI focuses on something other than #COVID19 and looks ahead to the new #immigration system still planned to come into force from 2021. (Thread 1/)
You can explore the guidance for yourself here: gov.uk/government/pub… but this summary aims to highlight the key points of interest. (2/)
UKVI starts by restating a message we've already heard; the new system will be Points Based and aims to level the requirements for all applicants regardless of their nationality, thereby ending free movement for EU nationals. (3/)

Last night we FINALLY received some guidance from UKVI regarding what action migrants in the UK should take with respect to their status and how it is impacted by #COVID19. Let's take a look at the finer details... (Thread 1/)
Firstly, there's 2 separate sources for this information, a 'news story' under the 'family visas' section of the UKVI website, and then also 'guidance' in the 'visas and entry clearance' section. Let's look at the news story first... (2/)
What is announced is an extension for existing migrants in the UK. That extension is available to those "who cannot return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic", which indicates people who are either sick/self-isolating or have no flights - it's not a matter of choice. (3/)

Because there's nothing else happening that we should all be focusing on, today we have a Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules to digest, yay! (Thread 1/) gov.uk/government/pub…
Thankfully there isn't loads. We've got changes in 4 key areas:
1. Adjustments to EU Settlement Scheme
2. Freeze on settlement salary thresholds for sponsored workers
3. Usual corrections to errors in the rules🙄
4. Update to Youth Mobility Scheme partner countries & places (2/)
The EUSS changes aren't earth shattering for most. We see a slight (in most cases, very slight) widening of the pool of people covered by the scheme, including a shift in how UKVI looks at family members of British citizens where the family has been living abroad in the EU. (3/)

Right everyone, let's take a quick look at what the Government is really saying about this "Global Talent Visa", shall we? (Thread 1/12) #globaltalent #visa #Immigration
The plan for a "new" Global Talent Visa has been around for a while. In August 2019, Boris Johnson made a 'big' announcement about removing the cap on Tier 1 Exceptional Talent, focusing his comments on welcoming scientific researchers to the UK. It wasn't a 'new route' (2/12)
In December 2019, a UKVI press release (gov.uk/government/new…) set out more information. This focused on adding to the number of scientific research fellowships that can assist applicants to enter the Exceptional Talent route. So again, nothing really 'new' (3/12)
