I have two USD equity portfolios. One focuses on stocks I will hold for at least 10 years - value stocks. The other is a shorter term trading portfolio. 🧵
Early on, I realised I had a secret sauce that powered my stock picks - my brand strategy experience. For 20 years, my daily job entailed creating, building and identifying enduring brands. So, I know one when I see it. And that is gold when you're picking value stocks.
The best brands tend to do well and if you spot them, you can earn incredible value in the long term.

It's often said that the way to build new skills is through focused repetition. But, be mindful of joy sucking and soul destroying capacity development. A few illustrations come to mind. 🧵
I learnt to swim a while back. The idea was for it to become a habit & exercise option. But for some reason, I was never consistent. I picked it up again a few weeks ago and it finally hit me. I don't enjoy swimming. It's not by force. Let me learn enough to survive and move on.
It's the same thing with accounts. I hate it and am currently in the process of delegating the small segment I still oversee.

MY NEW YEAR CHARGE | My watchword for 2021 is, BE DYNAMIC. Please be open to change and be quick to respond. You may have been surprised by COVID-19 in 2020, but you can't say you are surprised in 2021. 🧵
There might be fresh lockdowns. Vaccinations will need at least a year to be fully distributed. Nigeria will take time to stabilise its currency and to exit a recession & food inflation. Plan for these outcomes.
You already know about these things so, remember the adage, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." While you cannot control the world and you are not in power, look for opportunities and mine them. There are always opportunities in crises.

This season has been deeply spiritual. I started praying everyday and I began to pay closer attention to the things God is saying. 🧵 Image
I've never been the type to carry my spiritual gifts on my head, but God casually reminded me that I was a Prophet. I assumed he was referring to my writings, creative gifts and product development capacity.
He did say there are services that do not exist because I have not yet created them. So, in the coming years, I will be very product focused.

One of the greatest lies the religious were sold, is that if you're "good", bad things won't happen to you. As a matter of fact, as long as you're human, life will happen to you. As long as you try to do things right, those who prefer the status quo will fight you.
I know too many people who went "bad" because they felt betrayed by God. They keep saying, "After all, I did things right and look what happened to me. Now, I'm going to do all the bad things I didn't do earlier in life."
First, you can't "outbad" the professional bad guys. Chances are you'll simply end up destroying your soul and wrecking what's left of your life.
