Every biz/org. takes minutes of meetings starting with:
*list of attendees*. Why can't/doesn't @CityOfVictoria do the same?
We the citizens who pay their salaries are not allowed to attend (cause Covid!) to see for ourselves who is/isn't there.
And for same reason (Covid) many councillors are attending virtually rather than in person.
I support @Stephen_Andrew's motion" asking staff to look into amending a bylaw so that councillors participating remotely must be on video during meetings, allowing fellow councillors to hear and see them."
And I support it, not only so that fellow councillors know who is/isn't actually paying attention to the meeting; but so that we, #YYJ peeps who pay their salaries to make important decisions affecting us all, know that they are giving it their all..... BUT.....
BUT.... I find it beyond sad and discouraging... that we are even having to consider enacting policies/procedures to *prove* whether or not our council are doing the jobs we pay them for. #YYJ What a royal waste of time.
continued....
I tagged @JeremyLoveday specifically, because I had asked him months ago, why we couldn't have text transcripts of @CityOfVictoria meetings; and he kindly replied that we could; just had never been asked of city staff to do so (paraphrasing)...
My question to him, didn't go specifically to "attendance" (that's a new cog in the wheel) - but it did pertain to the need for transparency and accountability. ...
I don't have time (or patience) or enough blood pressure meds; to listen to every council meeting (live or after the fact) in it's entirety. But I see no reason (there *is* no reason) why the entire transcript couldn't be made available so we can read through it.
The @CityOfVictoria dashboard is woefully inadequate in keeping us informed.
a. It's a month behind the times. (most recent is Dec 10th!)
b. It gives results of motions/votes but NOT who said what.
I really find it surprising that even before pandemic; written transcripts of meetings weren't published. And now I think it's even more imperative that they are. It's pretty simple technology. I call on @CityOfVictoria to make this a priority.
Thx... @JeremyLoveday -who has kindly and promptly replied and suggested I re-send my request for written transcripts to all councillors ... via em; councillors@victoria.ca
And I urge anyone else who would like to see transcripts,do the same.
Here's the #EY full report: "Progress review of COVID-19 response in long-term care" (#LTC) in #BC - It was paid for by BC taxpayers, given to govt on Oct 20/20; and released to us, today: news.gov.bc.ca/files/1.25.202…
I question... why it took 3 months for this report to become public? I'm guessing it wouldn't have done @jjhorgan much good in his snap election, if it were made public just days before?
Elxn aside... I find the report troubling. Please read it and let me know what you think.
Dear @DrBonnieHenry -you are a renowned expert in public health, preventative medicine + global pandemics. Spare me your cheerleading 'find joy.. be kind'. It's insulting and a waste of your expertise. Pls put enforceable orders in place to contain the spread
And again... blaming the "lunch room"...
Please provide the stats that back up this assertion...
And it would really help us have more confidence in your "suggestions" if you stopped giggling at the serious questions you are asked.
The reason I ask is that -there are large numbers of people (1/4 is a figure I've heard) who do live with varying degrees of mental/emotional health issues; who might benefit from professional #MentalHealth care; who don't get it; because of the stigma and/or the expense. 2/
@JJhorgan your comment was so dismissive and demeaning to so many #BCers Among them:
->the reporter who asked the question
->your fellow MLAs, whose job it is to represent their constituents (us) by questioning you and holding you to account 3/
I find it curious, that she went on to say (re the hockey team) that " A number of the team came back and spread it to family/work/community"
Wouldn't the same be true for students, teachers, staff at schools - who also return home - and spread it ?

Here's what I found on the #BCCDC website which Dr Henry says would answer our ?'s re how she knows transmission isn't happening from schools:
Dear 650000+ #USA citizens currently living in #Canada,
I don't know what brought you here (welcome to #WeTheNorth land)
But I can't understand why only 30500 of you voted in #2016USElxn. That's downright pitiful by any #voter turnout standard... #USPoli#Toronto#Vancouver
..The results of the upcoming (66 days) #2020Election will have profound repercussions to not only #USA, but to #Canada . As a Canadian, I'm not eligible to vote. What's your excuse if you're a #USAexpat?
