Ömer Çelik called social media companies the source of digital fascism and digital dictatorship, saying the platforms pose a threat to the country’s sovereignty.
The reason? 👇2⃣3⃣4⃣ stockholmcf.org/social-media-p…
2⃣A tweet posted by President Erdoğan’s far-right ally Bahçeli that referred to students protesting the appointment of a pro-government rector to Boğaziçi University as “poisonous snakes whose heads need to be crushed” has been removed by Twitter.
3⃣In his tweets, Bahçeli called those demonstrating against Melih Bulu, a member of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) recently appointed as rector by Erdoğan, “terrorists,” “vandals” and “barbarians.”
4⃣Twitter limited access to 2 tweets by IM Soylu referring to 🏳️🌈 people as “perverts” that were posted after two Boğaziçi students had been arrested on charges of inciting hatred and insulting religious values in a poster depicting the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site in Mecca, with🏳️🌈
5⃣#Turkey accusing Twitter and social media, meanwhile 👇
6⃣By the end of 2019, 🇹🇷 authorities have blocked access to 408,494 websites, 130,000 URLs, 7,000 Twitter accounts, 40,000 tweets, 10,000 YouTube videos and 6,200 pieces of Facebook content, acc to research carried out by the Freedom of Expression Association’s (İFÖD) EngelliWeb
2️⃣”It was instigated by two successive governments of the Ottoman Empire; i.e. the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) party, and the Turkish Nationalist Movement of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.”
3️⃣”The Greek Genocide (or Ottoman Greek Genocide) refers to the systematic extermination of the native Greek subjects of the Ottoman Empire before, during and after World War I (1914-1923).”
Following @BAUDEGS I have experienced hateful and propagandist tweets time after time. I have been shocked that an academic community would be so reckless with their publications. So I did some research.
The question is:
Is this an official account for Bahcesehir Uni (Bau)?
Bahcesehir Uni, BAU has an official website bau.edu.tr which links to their social media, leading to their Twitter account @Bahcesehir
“Turkey has always done its own thing: “rejection of subjugation to the West has long been the bedrock of Turkish politics, whether its leadership was religious or secular, leftist or rightwing.”
“🇹🇷launched a brisk charm offensive with the EU and the new 🇺🇸president. A case in point was Erdoğan’s speech on 22.11.2020, in which he said, “We see ourselves as an inseparable part of 🇪🇺. We have always been the strongest member of Western Alliances, NATO in particular.”
“🇹🇷leadership is prone to repeatedly adjusting its foreign policy narratives to suit domestic political requirements. This creates massive foreign policy uncertainty for Ankara’s 🇪🇺 and 🇺🇸partners because🇹🇷 simultaneously plays friend and foe or acts both with and against NATO.”
@AdonisGeorgiadi κ.
