#PIA states that he had told Debretesion of #TPLF when they met in Umhajer January 7, 2019 that it was not in the best interest of #TPLF to prepare for war. Debretsion’s reply was “ኣይትኸውንን ኢያ"
Every war is the result of a miscalculation and #TPLF’s war on #ENDF and after that hope to march to Addis and Asmara was a big miscalculation
The #TPLF’s war in November is the result of the “political land mines” of ethnic hate, polarization and culture the #TPLF had buried for years, including the 1994 #Ethiopian constitution and article 39 designed to fracture #Ethiopia to serve #TPLF’s interest.
The path the #TPLF tried to follow is of the same pattern seen in #Iraq, #Syria, #Libya, #Somalia, #Yemen, the #Sudan and #Lebanon. A pattern to create crisis and then manage the crisis through interest driven NGOs
What saved #Eritrea from this kind of thinking was not because it is special any different, but because it took lessons from history and decided to work for the national harmony rather than the polarization of people along religious or ethnic lines.
If stability is to come to the Horn of Africa, #Ethiopia needs to be stable.
The recent vilification campaign against #Eritrea should be taken in the context of the past 80 years since the signing of peace after WWII. It goes all the way to John Foster Dulles’s infamous words that openly declared that independent #Eritrea doesn’t serve their interests.
The #Ethiopian regimes that were fighting against #Eritrea’s independence were only implementing the agenda of the powers that didn’t see #Eritrea’s independence for their strategic interests.
As we started to work together with #Ethiopia in 1991, the excuses of #Hanish and #Badme came. These were based on foreign agenda and #TPLF junta coupled with its own thinking served as a convenient tool
The demonization of #Eritrea since November 2020, needs to be taken in context. The very forces that were propping up the #TPLF to serve their strategic interests, are now throwing all sort of vilification in face of the TPLF’s demise. We can’t expect them to behave different.
We should remember how they brought the sanctions of 2009. They quoted false witnesses, fabricated evidences and they served as accusers, judge and jury. The current trend is of the same pattern. We need to learn from the lessons of our recent past.
Among many outrageous claims a Tigrean wrote: “Ethiopians oppose development projects in Tigray, & is 1 of z main reasons 4 z war on Tigray today. “ He should have said #TPLF neglected development projects in #Tigray because it chose to steal money earmarked 4 Tigray development
“in many ways, z Ethio-Eritrea war of 1998-2000 was a Tigray-Eritrea war”, TRUE, except z price was paid by lives of 135K #Oromos &other Ethiopians while #TPLF made a bundle by swindling #Ethiopia from arms purchase schemes, aid & stealing wealth of Eritrean-Ethiopian deportees.
“EPLF ... blocked z route to Sudan that Tigrayans were using to escape the[84-85] famine and civil war.” What author doesn’t mention is #TPLF had broken ties with #EPLF as early as 1983 and #TPLF, according @BBCAfrica documentary, was selling Aid agencies sacks of sand for grain.
