We’re currently monitoring 334 bills in state legislatures nationwide. Of those, at least 121 target the LGBTQ community and 62 are anti-trans.
Here’s our latest weekly update. Help us fight back.
Lawmakers in 21 states (AL, AR, AZ, CT, GA, IA, IN, KY, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NH, OH, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, and UT) are pushing forward similar attacks.
These dangerous bills would:
❌Ban youth from seeking gender-affirming medical care.
❌Ban trans kids from playing sports
In Mississippi, an anti-trans sports bill, SB2536, is active in the Senate and has been assigned to the University and Colleges committee.
This bill is moving through both chambers at the same time and has a March 2 deadline for committee votes.
In Arizona, a bill, SB1325, that would prohibit state officials from limiting “conversion therapy” -- despite all the harm and trauma it causes LGBTQ kids -- was set aside by a committee chair but could come back. act.hrc.org/page/76591/act…
Another bill in Arizona, HB2725, is an anti-trans bill that would ban non-binary gender markers on state documents.
In Utah, HB302, an anti-trans sports bill, passed the House on Monday.
Also in South Carolina, HB3477, an anti-trans sports bill was heard in a Judiciary subcommittee yesterday. act.hrc.org/page/76571/act…

Tennessee has two anti-trans sports bills. HB0003 will likely pass and SB228 just passed.
Instead of focusing on delivering relief for their constituents who are struggling through a pandemic, anti-equality legislators nationwide have decided to make harming trans kids their priority to score political points.
It’s cruel, and we all need to get involved to stop it.

How far have we come with @PeteButtigieg’s confirmation?
In 1999, James Hormel was nominated as Ambassador to Luxembourg, becoming the first openly LGBTQ nominee in American history.
His nomination was held up for two years by Republicans who said being gay was disqualifying.
One of the politicians who held Hormel’s nomination, Sen. Bob Smith of New Hampshire, told the press: "This is not a tolerance issue. This is a matter of advocacy of the gay lifestyle.”
Eventually, Bill Clinton was forced to make a recess appointment to allow Hormel to serve.
Pete Buttigieg cited Hormel’s story leading up to his confirmation hearing, recalling how a qualified public servant was attacked and undermined simply because of who he loved.
The Senate is currently discussing the #EqualityAct and why now is the time to ensure full protections for LGBTQ people. We must put this legislation to a vote and secure non-discrimination protections for our community. (THREAD)
“Let us put the Equality Act on the floor of the Senate. Let us debate it and let us pass it to act on the premise that Senator Ted Kennedy expressed the promise of America will never be fulfilled as long as justice is denied to even one.” - @SenJeffMerkley#EqualityAct
“As we approach another anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that sparked the modern LGBTQ equality movement, I’m also mindful of the leadership of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, transgender women of color, in that historic moment." - @SenatorBaldwin#EqualityAct
Hi everyone, it’s @jessetyler - advocate, actor and star of @ModernFam. I’m doing an #HRCTwitterTakeover to celebrate the finale of #ModernFamily and share how you can help keep moving the needle forward on LGBTQ issues!
Over the last 11 seasons, @ModernFam has transformed people’s perceptions of the LGBTQ community through the characters of Mitchell and Cam, showing Americans that queer people have the same hopes and ambitions in life as everyone else. - @jessetyler#HRCTwitterTakeover
2/ Over the past several months, we’ve seen how the Trump-Pence administration’s cruel immigration policies are harming LGBTQ and other asylum seekers who are fleeing violence in Central America by leaving them stranded on the U.S.-Mexico border. hrc.org/blog/the-crisi…
3/ LGBTQ asylum seekers like Cristal, Lorena and Cesar remain in fear living in Mexico as they await their U.S. court dates.
This year, @HRC is celebrating 50 years of #Pride, and two momentous anniversaries in #LGBTQ history: the 50th anniversary of the uprising at #Stonewall in 1969 and the first Pride parade a year later. #Stonewall50#Pride2019
2/ In the earliest hours of June 28, 1969, a group of LGBTQ people reached their tipping point. They were peacefully enjoying the evening at the #Stonewall Inn in New York City when police raided the bar and started hauling out the patrons.
3/ No longer willing to take the harassment and discrimination, the LGBTQ individuals at #Stonewall fought back. Their protest lasted six days … and sparked a movement that is still building today. #Pride2019
