The anti-inflammatory drug hydroxychloroquine should NOT be used to prevent infection in people who do not have #COVID19, according to the latest WHO clinical care guidance bit.ly/3e8tsBP
This strong recommendation is based on high certainty evidence from six randomised controlled trials involving over 6,000 participants with and without known exposure to a person with #COVID19 infection.

This follows previous recommendations issued in December 2020 against the use of the hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for #COVID19.
The international guideline development panel considers that hydroxychloroquine is no longer a research priority and that resources should be used to evaluate other more promising drugs to prevent #COVID19.

Most birth defects can be prevented and treated with access to quality maternal and newborn care services. Yet, close to 300000 newborns 👶 die within 4 weeks of birth every year due to birth defects.
