Today is #InternationalWomensDay!

We call for a world where every woman and girl has access to affordable quality health services, and all women and girls are treated and respected as equals.

#HealthForAll
On #InternationalWomensDay, let’s speak-up for gender equality & women’s rights!
When women & girls are able to stay in school longer, plan or prevent pregnancies & access health care without discrimination, they can improve their economic opportunities & transform their futures.
#CervicalCancer could be the first cancer EVER to be eliminated, if by 2030:
90% of girls are vaccinated
70% of women are screened
90% of women with cervical disease receive treatment
Let's commit to stop cervical cancer everywhere! #InternationalWomensDay
On #InternationalWomensDay , WHO is introducing a new global #breastcancer initiative to reduce global breast cancer mortality by 2.5% per year until 2040, thereby averting an estimated 2.5 million deaths
👇

#BreastCancer is the most commonly-diagnosed #cancer globally 🌎🌍🌏. In 2020, an estimated 2.3 million women were diagnosed with the disease.

👉 bit.ly/3bqmLsV

#InternationalWomensDay
#BreastCancer survival five years after diagnosis now exceeds 80% in most high-income countries, compared with 66% in India and just 40% in South Africa.

👉 bit.ly/3bqmLsV

#InternationalWomensDay
When #breastcancer services are unavailable, the premature deaths and high out-of-pocket expenditure result in social disruption, impoverishment, family instability and orphaned children and also threaten economic growth.

👉 bit.ly/3bqmLsV

#InterantionalWomensDay
The new global 🌎🌍🌏 initiative on #breastcancer will focus on 3 pillars:
1⃣ health promotion
2⃣ timely diagnosis
3⃣ comprehensive treatment and supportive care

#InternationalWomensDay

bit.ly/3bqmLsV
1⃣ Health promotion will include:
-public education about the signs & symptoms of #breastcancer
-risk reduction strategies (avoiding obesity, limiting 🥂 intake & encouraging 🤱)
-reducing the stigma associated with breast health

#InternationalWomensDay

bit.ly/3bqmLsV
2⃣ Timely #breastcancer diagnosis should reduce delays between the first interaction with the 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ & the initiation of treatment. Breast tumours do not change in days or weeks, but survival rates begin to erode when delays to initiate treatment are greater than 3⃣ months.
Current delays in #breastcancer treatment in some settings & among certain vulnerable populations can be over a year. Basic diagnostic services are feasible in all settings, so long as they are well-organized & lead to timely referral for specialist care.

#InternationalWomensDay
3⃣ Comprehensive treatment & care for #breastcancer treatment should include access to:
☑️ surgery
☑️ chemotherapy
☑️ radiotherapy
☑️ rehabilitation support following treatment
☑️ palliative services to reduce pain & discomfort
