4/18 name, swapping it for their proper title, Muscovy. They conceived of a false historical conception in place of Rus, the name they had stolen, Kievan Rus'. There has in fact never been a state named Kievan Rus, it was simply termed Rus. A theft of history occurred within

5/18 which the name of the Rus people was used as the pretext for encroaching on a neighbouring state whose name had the same origin. The purpose of this deceitful theft was to acquire seemingly legitimate rights to the history and territory of the Kyiv state which existed in the

6/18 ninth and tenth centuries when Muscovy was not even an embryo. The prominent historian Mychailo Hruš evs'kyj was compelled to introduce a new more precise name for our state and territory, Ukraina-Rus', in order to distance his work from the thief and its attempt to tie the

7/18 history of the Finno-Ugric peoples to Kievan-Rus'. Modern historians, comprehending the essence of this historical theft, deploy, with increasing frequency, the names the Kyiv State, The Great Kyiv Princedom and Rus' for that medieval state. They simultaneously eschew the

8/18 fake names of Kievan Rus' and Ancient Rus'. It is pertinent to note that folk memory is far more stable than any of these political renamings. The modern Latvians, for example, call the Russians Krievs, which originates from the Krivichs, the ancient neighbours of the

9/18 forebears of the Latvians. In the lexicon of the Finnish language the word Russia is translated as Venäjä which originates from the general name of some peoples who were known as the Veneti. We see, therefore, that resilient folk memory does not accept any of the later names

10/18 of the Russian state, neither Muscovy nor the name Rus' stolen from the Ukrainians nor the artificially conceived word Russia.

11/18 Apart from the similarity in the renaming of these two ancient peoples, the Dacians and the Finno-Ugric peoples there is a great difference between them. The descendants of the Dacians never claimed the history and territory of their former conquerors and their descendants.
