It’s important for us Americans to understand that this same tactic is being deployed here in the US. This is a war. But in the US, they are not using guns and bombs. The armament of choice is #disinformation. It’s happening on all social media platforms.
How do you avoid being tricked by it? Read a variety of news sources, because the way disinformation campaigns often work is to appeal to an emotional theme and once the reader is drawn in, the demand to isolate yourself from other narratives and people begins.
That’s how QAnon drew in so many Americans ahead of the #CapitolRiots. People lost their homes, families & jobs because they followed baseless conspiracy theories. They were radicalized, just like #terrorists are. @threadreaderapp unroll @john_sipher @GenMhayden @mvhaydencenter

URGENT: Lawyers for @navalny were prevented from seeing him. When they finally did, @vkaramurza says “they saw a man hardly able to walk, struggling to get off his bed, unable to feel his right leg, and suffering sharp and constant back pain.

Breaking: JULIAN ELIE KHATER, State College, Pa & GEORGE PIERRE TANIOS, Morgantown, West Virginia arrested! "Defendants Sprayed U.S. Capitol Police Officers B. Sicknick and C. Edwards, & MPD Officer D. Chapman with a Chemical Substance".
They are charged "with conspiring to injure officers and assaulting federal officers, among other charges, on Jan. 6. Khater was arrested as he disembarked from an airplane at Newark Airport in New Jersey. Tanios was arrested at his residence in West Virginia."
Court Docs say: “In reviewing surveillance footage of this incident, your affiant observed the SUBJECTS, JULIAN ELIE KHATER and GEORGE PIERRE TANIOS, working together to assault L/E officers with an unknown chemical substance by spraying officers directly in the face and eyes.

Looking back at some of my reporting and info from dozens of sources over the last 5 years + interviews with people like @anders_aslund @MarkWarner and @Billbrowder and reading the excellent work of @lukeharding1968 and @gordoncorera, there is absolutely no doubt that
the #CapitolRiot was a conspiracy that went well beyond some of those that participated in it, but it was a carefully orchestrated campaign of deception and incitement that was rooted in years of #Kremlin disinformation that some US officials had to know about.
What happened on 1/6/21 was the result of many, gullible people listening to false information that was pumped out by a US based troll operation for years that operates much like Russia’s troll factory in #StPetersburg. And a source tells me #GRU fingerprints

After 5 years investigating #Kremlin influence in the US, and talking with many experts including @Billbrowder @anders_aslund @MarkWarner, @Natalia_Budaeva @vkaramurza, it’s clear the US was targeted by some of the same people, & money sources that led to #Brexit.
It’s a complex architecture, but there is a definite link. If you look at the people who funded the #Leave campaign who’ve been closely associated with efforts in the US to foment discontent in the political parties, conspiracy theories and; how so many people minimal means...
Made it to #DC to participate in the #CapitolRiot on Jan. 6th, and you follow the money and idea trail, it takes you back to a some of the same people.

ALERT: I’ve learned in the past few days that some members of Congress and staff are not only worried about the threats around them, BUT, a number of them are exasperated when they see and hear reports of threats on TV and Radio, online and in the papers BEFORE they are notified
It’s my understanding that security briefings are taking place, but not to all members. The part that’s frustrating to the people I’ve spoken to is that the salient information makes it into the press, almost in real time, which suggest that some press are “almost in the room.”
Leaks? Maybe. But that’s not the issue. When I read or hear about about a threat and speak to a member or key staff, and they don’t know about it, THAT’S the problem. The other piece that perhaps some folks are not seeing is that according to law enforcement sources,
