There is no compromise for #remain in this brexit deal. For MPs who think it will bring people together once again they are indulging in sheer fantasy. The compromise is between a hard brexit and a slightly less hard brexit, all being harder than Mays WA which was pretty hard.
The people who have yapped on for 3 years about EEA Norway etc have completely wasted their breath. As soon as Mays red lines were drawn this option was out of the picture. If labour MPs think this deal is right they are doing a great disservice to the country.
The biggest Pro EU movement in Europe is not going to disband if brexit is imposed without at the very least a chance for people to have a voice at the ballot box ON. THE DEAL. #Leave have completely ignored #remainers concerns for 3 years.

I'm delighted that so much attention is now being paid to the issue of financial speculators and disaster capitalists making money out of #NoDeal. It's been frustrating to see so little attention being paid to this in Brexit debate. 1/
This is of course due to Rachel Johnson and Philip Hammond bringing it to the public awareness.
The BBC's Andrew Neil negates the idea by stating there's no evidence to support the claim. Financial markets and the news narratives they produce are always speculative... 2/
Since when do economists have to produce evidence to make future projections?
There are however clues. This is Christopher Chandler. He runs a company called Legatum Ltd. He made his fortune by travelling the world finding areas of political instability...3/

#OpportunityCost is the aggregate net cost of doing something, vis a vis 'not doing it' at all.

The initial project, option & prospect of #Brexit came with huge opportunity costs, which were too easily pre-discounted as #ProjectFear. 1/
The initial #Leave case, dramatised by the #BorisBus, contended that UK could save its £350m pw #EU 'gross membership contribution' and pass that 'saving' straight to the #NHS - as 'additional funding'. 2/
The #Leave case focused on saving UK's #EU gross membership cost in favour of #NHS.

It ignored regular #EU annual contributions back into a multiplicity of UK projects, which would obviously be stopped, if we ceased membership.

Reaction to name-calling by making fun of it.....

A thread....

By now - the #remain groups should have an agenda to win over the 45+million undecided voters to understanding the strengths of the EU.

Ask you local group what this is - and how you can help with it..... 😀

When the 23rd June 2016 referendum was written up - the biggest criticism of #remain, was that it was reactive.

It didn't have a policy of its own - but reacted and refuted things that the #Leave group said

It's now painfully clear and beyond any doubt: 1. That the sunny, cost-free, easy-access uplands, posited by the Brexit cult, are mendacious fantasy. 2. That the ever-growing costs, downsides and consequences of Brexit are very real and intellectually indisputable.

PPOPHET MUHAMMAD’S LAST SERMON

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his last sermon (Khutbah) on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah (12th and last month of the Islamic year), 10 years after Hijrah (migration from Makkah to Madinah) in the Uranah Valley of mount Arafat.
His words were quite clear and concise and were directed to the ENTIRE HUMANITY .
After praising, and thanking Allah he said:

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again.
Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
O people, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust.

Today is possibly .@theresa_may's last day as PM, if .@BorisJohnson can command a majority (which is in some doubt...)

So it's a great opportunity to look back at some of the *highlights* of Mrs May's premiership in memes👇
13 JUL 2016: May was appointed as PM and named her Cabinet shortly thereafter, surprising many by giving 3 of the top #Brexit-related jobs to arch-brexiters Boris Johnson, David Davis & Liam Fox. Sheer folly, or genius in making them own what they'd sold? Sadly, the former😢
/1.
5 OCT 2016: With such a narrow result, the country could be forgiven for expecting May to propose a consensual solution, as Norway PM Erna Solberg had done in a similar situation. Most Remainers would've accepted #Norway.

May's #CitizensOfNowhere speech crushed all hope.

Boris Johnson was once a journalist - sort of. We've collected the stories that he used to make up during his reporter days in Brussels. Grab some ☕️ and follow the lies that have helped pave his way to power.
As Brussels correspondent of the @Telegraph from '89-'94, Boris was the wellspring of much populist, anti-EU sentiment that got into the bloodstream of Britain and helped inspire the #Leave vote. We re-examined the material he used to feed the Eurosceptics...
In Jan '92 @BorisJohnson wrote: "The European Commission wants to count every field and farm animal under a Domesday Book-style survey aimed at preventing fraud following fundamental reform of the Common Agricultural Policy." 🧐 This sequel to the Domesday Book has yet to appear.

💰Banks, Farage, Bannon & Trump

Banks’s affairs have also fallen under scrutiny outside the U.K. Banks, Wigmore, and Farage came to public attention in the U.S. shortly after the 2016 elections.

A thread 👇🏽.

Last week I travelled to Dharamsala to the residence of the #DalaiLama.

He’s lived in exile in India for more than 60 years, after China sent troops into #Tibet in 1959.

As he approaches his 84th birthday I asked him a range of questions.

#BBCDalaiLama
The interview was wide ranging.

The Dalai Lama was scathing about President Trump arguing he has “no moral principle”. He hit out at his America First policies.

Watch the clip here.

#BBCDalaiLama. #DalaiLama #Trump.
It’s significant that the @DalaiLama hasn’t met or talked to @realDonaldTrump because he had such a strong relationship with past US presidents. Barack Obama and George W Bush most recently. George W Bush even did a painting of the Dalai Lama. bbc.com/news/av/world-…

Super thrilled to announce that "Did #Austerity cause #brexit?" has just been accepted for publication at the @AEAjournals in the American Economic Review. Short thread on whole paper available here wrap.warwick.ac.uk/106313/...
The paper traces the rapid rise of #UKIP after 2010, and the developing of anti-establishment and growing polarisation along key socio-economic divides over time.
And highlights that #austerity policies, in particular, the hollowing out of the welfare state since 2010 induced many individuals to adopt anti-establishment sentiment -- these were successfully channeled into votes for #Leave and #UKIP

Have you heard of #Hotelling’s Law? In a two party system, it says that you get most votes by minimising the political distance between the parties. It’s worked well in the past, but it’s about to bring an end to both #Labour and the #Tory party. 1/n
uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/id…
Hotelling’s law worked really well for Tony #Blair. #Thatcher had moved the Tory party to the right, so #NewLabour had an opportunity to increase its vote share by also moving rightwards. 2/n
Politics had shifted. Both parties held broadly similar policies. Blair’s political stance, although to the left of Thatcher’s, was much further right than any Labour leader previously (or since). Labour was able to capture ground that the Tories had left unguarded. 3/n

A #brexit thread 👇

1. In 2017 we were invited to #No10 to talk to Gavin Barwell about our thoughts on things. I had a conversation with him on #Brexit that rings absolutely true now and is more relevant than ever - so I thought I'd share:
2. I said to him that #Brexit had redrawn 'party lines' - that right/left was now less relevant that #leave/#remain and we had to examine our 'core vote' on that basis. We had done well in the #Mansfield-esque seats and lost the Croydons, we needed to think about why.
3. I said to Barwell that there was no compromise that would keep both #remainers and #leavers happy. That we could not keep both audiences on board in the context of #Brexit and we should not try - it's impossible. We had to leave first, and then we could rebuild the coalition.

Vote for #Farage and get this. This man is Crispin Odey. He bankrolled #VoteLeave and made 220m when leave won by shorting the pound. Farage helped the markets to fluctuate when he 'conceded' the referendum early. You are being used to fill their pockets. #BrexitParty #EUElection
Odey also has links to Rees-Mogg. He helped Jacob set up his hedge fund, and also helped towards his election costs. They are all in this together, they pretend to care about the working-class, but in truth they are exploiting us to make more money. ft.com/content/a42110…

There is a big and obvious thing that happened in #LocalElections2019 - a surge of support for #remain parties - and it is real. But there is a smaller thing creating a more confusing picture. A theory .... 1/n (picture source @guardian ) #Brexit
The smaller thing is that Labour is doing better in areas that are remain and worse in its strong areas that are #leave. This is a paradox as you would expect the opposite if this was driven by a #RemainBacklash.
And the Tories are the opposite. They are being punished in their areas that are remain. Is this just a plague on both your houses and reveal nothing about voters and #brexit? I don't believe so. And here's my theory.

During 2016, I campaigned with all my heart to Remain.

Very early on, I realised the 'official' Remain group ("Stronger In") was incompetent and even obstructive.

In my wilder moments, I even began to wonder if there was foul play going on.

#EURef
#Remain
#StrongerIn
(Cont...)
Later, I found out that the Chair of Stronger In was Stuart Rose, a man who had previously advocated for #Leave, who is on record as stating that #Brexit would lead to higher wages and who is now vigorously opposing a 2nd referendum... Not, in my submission, a committed Remainer.
Other figureheads of Stronger In jumped onto the 'we must respect the Will of the People' bandwagon almost before the results were in, and some of them then *actively* subverted Pro EU manifestations. Any Remainer on the 'March for Europe' in September 2016 will know what I mean.

My #Leave vote was about sovereignty and recovering powers lost to Brussels.

Like everyone else, I expected the result to be honoured just as no less than 2 Prime Ministers and all the party leaders promised us that it would be. 2/
Brexit has done us a favour. It has revealed that democracy in this country is a myth.

It turned out that, as usual, MPs’ public proclamations and manifesto promises were utter lies.

If implementing a democratic choice is populism , then I’m now a populist. 3/

This morning I realised I am not just politically homeless but voiceless too.

As I listened to the BBC, Sky etc I realised nobody was representing my total outrage and anger at the current parliamentary shenanigans. 1/
MPs are allowed to glibly discuss the possibility of further referendums, delays and revocation without any challenge whatsoever.

It’s all, “let’s all talk about #BrexitBetrayal . Oh, and now the weather, what a lovely day. What fun”

Panels are stuffed with Remainers 2/
Where are the searching questions about how leave voters might feel about MPs’ proposals?

Where are the Leave Means Leave representatives?

Where’s the utter outrage that our democracy is being being subverted before our very eyes? 3/

Your plans, your future, your hopes, your dreams.
Stopped in a heartbeat.
And replaced by cold fear

And you look into your partner's face, and he (she) is white, and frightened. And you phone your son/daughter, and there is THAT SILENCE for a few seconds before they speak.
That is what #cancer does: it destroys your body, & your family.
