Chinese companies have for years invested in US firms that handle sensitive #Healthcare and #PersonalData, granting them entry into the US market and access to this data.
Former @NCSCgov Director William Evanina warned that BGI’s labs were like trojan horses: By setting up its gene-sequencing equipment in the US, the company could later exploit the equipment to mine Americans’ genetic information.
Chinese companies offering low-cost gene sequencing services have also formed partnerships with US hospitals, universities, and research institutes.
A 2019 report found that at least 15 Chinese firms were licensed to perform genetic testing or sequencing on US patients.

But state broadcaster @CCTV reported that 444 cases were confirmed in Hubei Province alone during an 8 p.m. news segment on Jan. 22.
Chinese media @Caixin reported that Qichun county mayor Zhan Caihong said there were 109 confirmed cases in #Huanggang city.
But @CCTV reported only 12 diagnosed cases from Huanggang.
