Like Donald Trump, Mr Modi would not give up campaigning while the pandemic raged. India went ahead with five state elections in April, and an unmasked Mr Modi held huge rallies. Mr Modi’s brand of Indian exceptionalism bred complacency.
The Indian prime minister suffers from overconfidence in his own instincts and pooh-poohs expert advice. His ministers turned on a former Congress prime minister for daring to offer them counsel just before he was admitted to hospital with Covid this week.

As journalists, its our job to show what's happening, not tailor it to preferences. If there are dead bodies waiting in line to be cremated, if people are dying without a bed, that's what we'll report/ show with proper advisories. Can't paintbrush reality because its distressing.
These calls to not show #cremations in #India on news is just another ploy to divert attention of from the #reality that crematoria are running full with people being denied dignity in #death. The #COVID19India situation is horrible and it has to be reflected on the news.
Yes its #depressing and the person reporting from the crematorium is not enjoying it. But that's what our management of the pandemic has led to. See what the situation is, fix responsibility and remember all this when you elect your leaders.

A government that rushes to take credit for every small thing is today desperately trying to shift blame for its mismanagement to states. This while it has retained control on #vaccines & #oxygen. Not that states have zero responsibility, but this is largely the Centre's doing.
Troll factories are pushing the narrative that #PrimeMinister #NarendraModi can't be blamed while he was busy holding super spreader election rallies when he should have taken charge of the situation. So expect an all out attack from the IT Cell. Accountability anyone? #2ndWave
#States too should have been better prepared. But with #vaccinationpolicy and #oxygenallocation out of their control, they could do little except prepare for the worst with whatever resources they had at their disposal. Some states did take steps and thank god for that. #Pandemic

#Centre says we allocated oxygen plants to states but #states did nothing.

Here is the #truth.

Order clearly states that the procurement will be done by the Central Medical Supply Store, an autonomous body under the MOFH.

We need to see if CMSS actually procured these units.
Order also states that hospitals where these plants were to be installed were identified in consultation with state governments and union territories. It’s clear that the states have a go ahead. So what happened after that? Were allocated funds disbursed? Did procurement happen?
Who delayed procurement, construction and installation of #oxygen plants? At what level did the delay take place. It’s says locations were identified in consultation with states. What happened after that is key. If the #Centre or a #CentralBody was in charge, who delayed it?

Shifting metro carshed from #Aarey may cost us a few thousand crores more (Mumbai can afford it) and it may take a couple of more years to complete but the environmental gains from this decision is something future generations will applaud us for.

There is no doubt Mumbai urgently needs the #Metro and it is an immensely important project for the city. It needs to be completed as soon as possible. But while achieving this, if we can save green cover in a green starved city like Mumbai, nothing like it.

As someone who uses public transport for personal travel (I don't own a car) I am very keen that the #Metro is completed as soon as possible. But to do so we can't disregard the environmental cost completely. We have to make every effort to save spaces like #Aarey

The #SushantSinghRajput case has taught me how fine, well meaning people can be misled and ill-informed by fake news. Explaining 'CDRs don't come with initials' or 'the mandate and proceedure of postmortems' can be difficult to explain to someone without domain knowledge.
If one isn't bothered about details or facts don't matter, dissemination of information is easier. Amplifying fake news is easier than correcting perceptions that've been created by constant bombardment of agenda driven information. Journalists have to do the latter, not former.
Post-mortem report, viscera report, initial statement of family, statements of mental health practitioners, statements of other witnesses recorded by police, nothing matters because all this evidence doesn't count when the agenda has been set & real news is far behind fake news.
