Getting very weary and trying as best as I can to tame the anger impulse, as I keep hearing people say that the toxicity in #alberta is all about Covid or it's all about the penchant for individualism, or the geography- Urban/Suburban vs Rural. These excuses are inexcusable.
The atmosphere in Alberta is toxic because of the ugliest kind of politics practiced by those who have deliberately pitted Albertans against each other. Toxicity is generated alternative media entrepreneurs on social media platforms, pumping their poison all day and all night.
The toxicity in Alberta isn't natural. The history of Alberta shows the best in "love thy neighbour" especially in times of crisis. No amount of wildfires, floods and other natural disasters have failed to inspire Kindness, Compassion, Community & Unity.
The Alberta I came to know in 1974 when I first lived there and 1989 when I returned and 2001 when I returned again, was never naturally toxic. Quite the opposite. It was naturally cleansing, and healing. Todays toxicity is grotesquely unnatural. It is manufactured madness.

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
This was tweeted by the Conservative MP representing the South Surrey-White Rock, @KerryLynneFindl The MP later apologized for retweeting a video on this tweet that was harvested from a hate site. Hardly a fulsome unambiguous apology for composing & disseminating #AntiSemitism
.@PierrePoilievre the Conservative finance critic re-tweeted this hateful message and has not apologized or explained. The new leader of the Conservative Party is without public comment. A spokesperson for the leader told CP that his office will not be commenting on this.
Apparently @ErinOTooleMP feels the morally empty apology from the #CPC MP for South Surrey-White Rock is good enough for him. That's his choice. It clearly is not even close to good enough for many Cdns who care deeply about racial bias in in our country.
Nothing in this world black and white, we were told. Everything that's matters is in shades of grey, we were told. On this day can we just admit that we have been fed a lot of trash? While blacks are in palpable pain watching police violence, whites are shocked by black reaction.
If you're one of those truly shocked by what you see on your screens, you may be white. How do I know? Because I used to be just like you. But something changed for me when I watched the video from Minneapolis of the white police officer's knee on an #AfricanAmerican neck.
Something changed for me when I saw the white police officer #DerekChauvin's knee pressed against #GeorgeFloyd's neck even after the black man begged for his life in an unmistakably desperate voice, telling the officer that he could not breathe. Something finally changed for me.
When #ColinKaepernick first took a knee, I was disturbed, disturbed enough to re-read things I hadn't read for awhile, disturbed enough to watch speeches I hadn't seen in awhile, disturbed enough to finally concede that my first disturbed look was that of a white football fan.
When seeing #Trump's tweet last night threatening to use U-S armed forces to shoot #AfAmericans anywhere and everywhere in the U-S, I was disturbed enough to remember how I first felt about #Kaepernick and his knee and apologize to him in my thoughts for my initial reaction.
But today it's time for thoughts to be turned into words. Many people, in my opinion,in various walks of life, owe him an apology. They can make their choices. I've made mine. Dear Mr #Kaepernick You were right, and I was wrong. Your knee spoke from a position of strength.
People who want to trash our show tell me that I am not doing enough to be critical of #Trudeau. Many who want me to condemn him, want me to praise #Trump Once upon a time I would ask "What's wrong with these people?" But I don't have to ask any more.
Forced myself to watch an hour of @FoxNews prime time the other night, and I swear to God, I wanted to go for some sort of medical test afterwards - sickest trash I've ever seen on a news station. Person in #WashingtonDC who I find most difficult to watch is not the President.
It's the Vice President. Watching someone stimulate themselves by being submissive, sycophantic and obsequious toward authority, disgusts me like few other behaviors. #MikePence disgusts me.
#ConradBlack is locked & loaded against the #Lockdown "I am not a gun enthusiast and don’t enjoy shooting of any kind but it was hard not to be impressed by the determination of large groups of Americans crowding into state capitals last week,
many of them exercising the Second Amendment right to bear arms,to assert their right to go freely about their communities, do their jobs, earn their pay and take care of their families." Conrad Black
Dear Mr. Black, I will never deny that your intellectual capacity is impressive, but once again it's sadly disproportionate to your empathy empty thinking, in this case about the many thousands our elders who have perished. Undoubtedly, you think of a pea sized heart as a trophy.
Email from a Persian Canadian Doctor who is not allowed to practice in Canada-yet. "My name is Ali . I was a physician in my home country, Iran. Here in Canada, I got my license, two years ago , however, I am not allowed to practice medicine in Canada as the process of being able
to practice in Canada for International medical graduates is different and long lasting. There are thousands of well experienced doctors from different countries who passed Canadian medical exams and ready to work. We want to make our contribution to Canada and I believe
this is the best opportunity to depict our ability. We want to help as a volunteer in health care system in this critical condition that is going to be a serious burden on Canada health care system. No one wants to listen to us. This is really heart breaking.
