Authorities in #HongKong cited the ongoing #NSL investigation as the ground to freeze Jimmy Lai's assets in the city. His shares in Next Digital Limited and bank accounts belonging to three other companies he owns were frozen. hongkongfp.com/2021/05/14/nat…
This comes following another heavy news for Lai's media empire as @appledaily_hk announced that they will stop printing the physical newspaper in #Taiwan after May 17, marking an end of the paper in Taiwan for almost two decades.
Lai has been made one of the prime targets of #HongKong and #Beijing authorities' crackdown on #HK's civil society and opposition forces. He's been given multiple charges and has also been sentenced to more than a year in jail in at least one case.
Lai has been put behind bars since late last year, even before he was formally given any jail sentence. He still faces trials in a fraud case and his #NSL case, which could see him be given life imprisonment if the court goes with the most severe punishment.
@appledaily_hk in #HongKong has announced that they will still publish the paper as usual tomorrow and the union at Next Digitl has also announced that they will keep working as usual.
An airstrike launched by Israel destroyed a high-rise building in #Gaza that housed the offices of several foreign media outlets including @AP, @AlJazeera_World, and others. apnews.com/article/israel…
AP staffers and other tenants safely evacuated the building after the military telephoned a warning that the strike was imminent within an hour. Three heavy missiles struck the 12-story building, collapsing it in a giant cloud of dust.
“The world will know less about what is happening in Gaza because of what happened today,” AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt said in a statement.
Breaking: Among the 180 cases in #Taiwan, 89 are in Taipei, 75 in New Taipei. There are also cases in Taichung and Changhua.
All recent cluster cases in #Taiwan share the same mutated #COVID19 strain from the UK.
Apart from 89 confirmed cases in Taipei and 75 confirmed cases in New Taipei City, there are 6 new cases in Changhua County, 4 in Yilan County, 4 in Taoyuan County, 1 in Taichung City and 1 in Keelung.
This is my rather lazy attempt to stock up some emergency things amid the latest #COVID19 outbreak.
Honest confession: I almost never cook and I am lazy so my priorities are anything that can be made instantly....
My whole shopping took five minutes cuz I honestly just grabbed whatever I saw on the shelf. Didn’t even bother to read the instructions...lol Laziness rules!
Here are the nine guidelines for level three #COVID19 warning that was just announced: 1. Wear masks at all times when citizens are outside. 2. Avoid unnecessary moving between locations, gatherings and activities. 3. Stop outdoor gathering of more than 10 people and ...
... indoor gathering of more than 5 people. 4. Monitor your own health and go to the doctors when there are symptoms. 5. Public places need to conduct a strict control on the number of people entering the venues and ensure mask-wearing and social distancing are enforced.
6. Places of employment should follow relevant guidelines for businesses and if it's possible, businesses are encouraged to initiate remote-working and flexible working hours.
Out of the 180 new #COVID19 in #Taiwan today, there are 132 cases without clear sources of infection. 43 are related to the Wanhua cluster, 4 related to the New Taipei cluster and 1 related to the Yilan cluster. Almost 2/3 of the new cases have no clear sources of infection.
Health minister Chen Shih-Chong said #Taiwan will only impose a strict total lockdown if it records more than 100 cases for 7 days in a row. cna.com.tw/news/firstnews…
Many are asking what caused the latest outbreak in #Taiwan and my humble and personal observation is that people in Taiwan have become relatively too relaxed about the preventative measures following more than a year of rather successful pandemic prevention.
