1/ THREAD. Wow, #COVID19 really loves our family.

Just as I'm finally feeling fully recovered, 14 months after my hospital discharge, our three-year-old son tested positive for Covid.🙁

2/ We were surprised by the positive result. Our son was with my husband and me at our most contagious last year, so we figured that he would have gotten it back then if he was going to get it.

3/ I suppose it's possible that our son did get Covid last year from us, cleared it from his system, and then caught a variant this time around.

It's a reminder that the #CoronavirusPandemic isn't over just yet — and we should still be vigilant.

4/ Since our son is just three years old, he's too young to get vaccinated. Luckily, all the adults in his life are fully vaccinated — plus my husband and I have the powerful combo of natural plus vaccine immunity — so we're not too worried for ourselves.

6/ As of now, our son shows no Covid-19 symptoms and appears to be in good spirits, knock wood.

Cases of serious illness in children from Covid are unusual but not impossible, so please pray for him or send him good vibes if you're not the praying type.

7/ Are there any other parents out there with young kids — say, under 5 — who tested positive for Covid? If so, what was your child's experience?

8/ Update: our three-year-old son is still asymptomatic (knock wood), despite testing positive for #COVID19 on Thursday, and he’s as energetic as ever (no nap today). Of course, we continue to be vigilant; we don’t see this as over just yet.

9/ Update: our son is out of quarantine, and I’m happy and grateful to report that he never exhibited any #COVID19 symptoms. Thanks again to everyone for the prayers, good vibes, and other support.

10/ Of course, we’ll continue to monitor our son closely for anything unusual (e.g., MIS-C symptoms).

On the bright side, now we won’t worry about him getting #Covid, esp. since the #COVID19Vaccines probably won’t be approved for kids his age for a while.

11/ So I went and got myself tested for #COVID19 after our son tested positive — my result was negative. Not surprising given my prior infection and full vaccination, but nice to know anyway. (Cc’ing @mwash1983 @CoreyRYung, with whom I discussed this.)
