1. Children questioning whether they are trans need shielding from content on @CBBC & Childline, a mother has said…
Both the @BBC & the @NSPCC, which runs Childline, have come in for criticism for providing a one-sided view of transitioning.” #LGBT
telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/06/2…
2. We have reviewed the guidance provided by @NSPCC (lesson resources and guidelines) and @childline (guidance on their website). We have concerns with the content they have produced. See our report here: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/resources-2/fa…
3. Let’s look at all the ways their resources breach @educationgovuk This thread includes examples and is not exhaustive. Read the full guide for a thorough analysis.
4. @educationgovuk says that schools should use evidenced-based resources that contain robust facts and are from credible sources. Babies are not assigned a gender at birth. There are rare instances of inaccurate recordings for those children who are later found to have DSDs.
5. @educationgovuk guidance says that resources should not suggest that children might be a different gender based on their personality, their interests, or the clothes they wear. @NSPCC and @Childline clearly did not get the memo as there are numerous examples of this throughout
6."Breast binders and packers" @educationgovuk says that teachers should not suggest to a child that their non-compliance with gender stereotypes means that either their personality or their body is wrong and in need of changing”. Huge #safeguarding red flag here.
7. We are horrified the NSPCC is still supporting the use of Puberty Blockers in its resources despite the ruling of the High Court that children can't consent to them. @NSPCC and @Childline have truly lost their way in failing to put the safety and wellbeing of children first.
8. It’s a shame that despite meeting with the @PSHEassociation where they agreed there are serious issues to consider, they are still prepared to put their quality mark on resources such as this which contravene @educationgovuk guidance. Members should be questioning its value.
9. @nspcc resources use terms such as cisgender & “sex assigned at birth” which is linked to a political position & a belief in gender ideology which many find offensive and sexist. The use of the term breaches @educationgovuk guidance that schools should be politically impartial
10. These resources are also unscientific There is no scientific evidence that everyone has a gender identity. There are two sexes – female and male – and whether someone is male or female is a biological fact, not a choice or a feeling.
11. The lesson plans are also problematic. A year 6 resource (10/11) encourages a child to join an online forum and message strangers. Even with parental knowledge and ground rules, this is in breach of #safeguarding. Why is the @NSPCC supporting this?
12. And this bizarre and highly offensive task asks children to put these sexist and homophobic terms on a gender spectrum. It then helpfully defines these terms for the children. How on earth will this reduce bullying? How does it go any way to addressing stereotypes?
13. All of our work checking school resources is carried out by teacher volunteers - the @educationgovuk says it's not their job to check what schools are being sold. However, we do have some costs so please donate if you can: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/donate/

THREAD
It is #RainbowDay of #SchoolDiversityWeek. Here is a roundup of all the issues with @JustLikeUsUK’s resources. We first wrote to @GavinWilliamson expressing concerns a year ago. It is very worrying to see
@educationgovuk still promoting them.

KS1 (age 5-7) maths resources which seem to be more about indoctrination than improving mathematics skills in small children.

#SchoolDiversityWeek

Irresponsible attitude towards suicide. Imagine being a teen just realising you are same sex attracted & being told this means you may kill yourself? Or being told being black means you may kill yourself? Where are the @samaritans?

“Supporting trans pupils in school” from @JustLikeUsUK for #SchoolDiversityWeek

They state ‘do not share this document with staff outside of your school’. We wonder why?

Is it because it undermines #safeguarding? Breaches guidance & law or says biological sex is a spectrum?
#SchoolDiversityWeek promotion of puberty blockers taking no account of #KeiraBell ruling. Repeated conflation of sex with gender.

More misrepresentations of the law and undermining of #safeguarding from @justlikeus for #SchoolDiversity week. Advising hiding of child’s sex & mixed sex facilities, leaving schools open to legal action.

Next up from @JustLikeUsUK for #SchoolDiversityWeek we have this libelling of Julia Long (pictured).Julia & other lesbians have every right to assert their same sex attraction at a #pride march. Denying this is homophobic/misogynistic & a breach of 1996 Education Act. #WomenEd
Julia Long is a lesbian feminist activist. She campaigns against porn & the damage it causes women & girls as well as being a researcher for the femicide census #CountingDeadWomen. Julia & her wife @sargesalute are excellent role models for lesbian & gender non conforming girls.
We are appalled that @JustLikeUsUK are telling girls, just becoming aware that they are same sex attracted that they have no right to exclude ‘lesbians’ with penises from their dating pool. This is #rapeculture. It is abhorrent that @educationgovuk are endorsing this.

Inclusion & inclusive language: Balancing the rights of all.
This morning we have seen a lot of confusion in the education community regarding sex & gender, when children should & shouldn’t be separated by sex & ‘inclusive’ language.

#edutwitter #WomenEd #UKedchat
‘People who menstruate’ is not ‘inclusive’ language. It is offensive & dehumanising. When used in public health campaigns it excludes many women. Women with LD’s, women with EAL, women with poor literacy skills. The @educationgovuk is clear that it is girls who menstruate.
As well as being offensive (it is akin to the old fashioned misogynistic slur ‘bleeders’) ‘people who menstrate’, ‘cervix havers’, ‘uterus owners’ & all the other appalling euphemisms used for women & girls. It is politically motivated language & as such has no place in school.

Once again we have problems in Warwickshire. @EquipEquality1 are misrepresenting the Equality Act to schools. Are you endorsing this @Warwickshire_CC? Have you not learnt from previous debacles?

@ChtyCommission is it acceptable to misrepresent the law?

headsup.warwickshire.gov.uk/assets/1/equip… Image
You can read about previous issues in Warwickshire on our website. These include @Warwickshire_CC promoting a resource called ‘respect yourself’ that among other #safeguarding concerns told children that bukkake was empowering.

#edutwitter #WomenEd

safeschoolsallianceuk.net/2019/11/05/cou…
For anybody who would like to know what ‘bukkake’ is without googling, this is how @Warwickshire_CC described it - to children. They also graphically described ‘fisting’, ‘felching’, ‘sunflowering’ & how normal it was for 12 year olds to be addicted to porn - to children. Image

Please keep signing & sharing this petition. The response from @NSPCC & @peterwanless has been unacceptable. This video must be withdrawn & lessons learnt about #safeguarding.

This is the latest response we have received from @NSPCC ‘supporter care’ (@peterwanless didn’t have the courtesy to reply himself). This is unacceptable. If Childline are no longer endorsing this video, they need to say why. All other unsuitable material must also be withdrawn
This video is still up on YouTube, stating that it was made in conjunction with Childline. If the @NSPCC no longer endorse this video they need to say so & ensure its removal. It has been viewed 3m+ times & is still being promoted by @ScotGovEdu rshp.scot/wp-content/upl…
