European golfers from Ireland, Britain and across the continent join forces every two years to play in the men’s Ryder Cup & women’s @TheSolheimCup against the USA, with this year’s @rydercup European team being captained by @padraig_h

The 2019 British Open Championship was held in the beautiful @royalportrush golf club in Antrim where Offaly-man @ShaneLowryGolf won the Claret Jug, becoming the 5th golfer from the island of Ireland to win the oldest golf tournament in the world.🏌️🏆

While there was no #Irish winner at @TheOpen over the weekend, Shane Lowry’s performance earned him an automatic qualifying place for Padraig Harrington’s European Ryder Cup team this year. 👏 👏

Shane & @McIlroyRory will go on to represent #TeamIreland in men’s golf at the #TokyoOlympics later this month while the brilliant @leona_maguire & @StephMeadow20 will represent 🇮🇪 at the women’s event. 🏌️‍♀️ 🏌️‍♂️

South Shields-born former Irish international rugby player Sophie Spence won two @Womens6Nations Championships & 40 caps for Ireland before her retirement from playing in 2018. 🏉🏆🏆

Trailblazing #Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore was born & raised in Killenaule, Tipperary where she developed a passion for racing. Since turning professional in 2015 @rachaelblackmor has achieved several notable “firsts” in the world of UK & Irish racing.🏇

Rachael became the first female jockey to win the Ruby Walsh Trophy for leading @CheltenhamRaces jockey in March of this year after winning 6 races at the festival & in April she became the first female winner of the @grandnational👉bbc.in/3B0mFDb
