1/🧵 Should a man who HAS COVID be allowed at the bedside in N95+PPE to be with his dying wife? In last week’s poll, votes cast made it clear that whether he’d gotten #vaccinated mattered a lot. 2 out of 3 said NO if he had not gotten #vaxxed.

WHY did people answer this way?

2/ This poll was stimulated by an actual patient/spouse situation I had where they both had COVID, and the spouse who wanted to visit the dying patient had just tested positive. (Thus, actively shedding virus.) I wondered if vaccination status would matter to people.

3/ For me as a physician, vaccination status does NOT factor into hospital visitation.

⚠️ To understand the state of societal danger right now, I want to put forth an analogy about DEATH using airplanes. Bear with me…

4/ ✈️ “AIRPLAINES” of people have been dying daily 20 mos. But how does it break down by #Unvaxxed vs #Vaccinated?

Unvaxxed U.S. deaths equate to ~3 full 787 flights crashing EVERY DAY for 20 mos vs. Vaxxed is one 787 crashing only every 2 mos.

6/ The UNvaccinated Airplane Analogy:

A Dreamliner carries 330 people when fully booked. Assuming a Jan 2020 pandemic start date & that a plane crash kills all on board, we can take >615k U.S. COVID deaths/20 mo/30 dys = >1k deaths/day div by 330 = 3.1 planes per day! 🤯

7/ Vaccinated ✈️ : Of >615k deaths, only 1.2k (0.2%) deaths are in vaxxed (ref👆). Since vaccinations became widely accessible in Dec 2020, we’ve had ~7 months to be fully vaxxed, so 1.2k/7 mo/30 dys = 5.7 deaths/day div by 330 dths/flt = 0.017. Reciprocal = 1 flight every 58 dys
