Around 7:00pm, the door is opened.

He knows the time because he can hear the Swahili bulletin.

Two guys in lab coats come and lift him from the floor.
They tell him they are taking him to hosi soon, to get his shoulder checked. But before that he has to eat.

He says he is not hungry.

They insist he must eat. They ask him what he wants to eat.

He says he is feeling cold. Very cold.

They tell him not to worry. 'Tutaku-sort!'
They assist him gently, across the metal door into a lavishly furnished apartment sitting room, on the other side. Huge TV and all.

He sees's there are a lot more people now, but none of them bothers with him. They continue chatting & laughing.

They sit him gently on the couch.
He can smell onions and ugali going on in the air.

One of the lab coat guys goes into a room and brings him hot food, while the other one brings him a heavy sweater and sweatpants. Fresh off the packaging.

He helps him put it on. He feels some pain but manages to dress up.
They bring some water too.

While trying to eat, one of the men inside the room approaches him. Definitely their leader.

‘Naije Georgie? Unaskia aje?’

He says he is with the CID.

‘Mkono ndio uchungu lakini naskia poa.’
‘Pole sana. Lakini…’
‘Bibi yangu na mtoi wako wapi?’
He tells him they will take him right to them, but he needs some help.

He relaxes.

They say there are some people they are looking for.

The detective shows George some pictures from an iPad.

‘I want you to look at these pictures and tell me kama unajua mtu yeyote hapa. Sawa?’
He stares at the screen as the cop scrolls until they get to the 8th or 9th person. He leans closer to the screen.

That's... that's their nanny.

He says, ‘Huyu ni Auntie. Housie wetu.’

Are you sure?

He is damn sure.

‘Jina yake?’

Anaitwa Rose.

The room now gathers around.
The detectives show him like 10 more people. And they they go through the faces once again, two more time.

He doesn’t seem to know any of the others.

Hawajawahi kuja ama kulala kwako?

He swears never.

The cops say, they actually have been to his several times asiwadanganye.
They go back to Rose.

Detective: Mnajuana aje?

He says she is either a cousin or a close relative of his wife... he is not sure.

She came to them about a month before the baby was born, his wife’s mother brought ‘auntie’ to them. Na alikuwa ametoka hizo upande za ushago kwao.
They explain to him that Rose is a fugitive. And that she is being sort for a number of serious crimes. And that the name Rose is an alias.

He refuses.

They ask him to unlock his phone and call his wife’s mother.

He begs asking what’s going on. Akaambia ata hakuna ngori.
'We urgently need to find out ako wapi. And the last place she was at was your house.'

As soon as his phone goes on 10 million messages come through fast.

He is calm now, but he senses kuna a lot more trouble.

He asks them to tell him what is going he may be of some help.
They ignore him.

They also tell him not to look at his messages or do anything. Just call mother in law.
.
…Calling Mum In Love…

‘George, George, mko wapi? Nini inaendelea? Mbona majirani wanasema mlishikwa?

He doesn’t know where he is. But he tells her, ako poa, ako na CID.
And they tells her they are looking for Auntie?

‘Auntie mgani?’

‘Ule wa nyumba. Janet?’

‘Jameni Janet amefanya nini?’

The lead cop takes the phone and starts talking to Mum In Love. He moves away with the phone. And then he comes back.

He switches Georgie's the phone off.
He tells him, ‘Your housie was going to kill you tonight. That was the plan. Sisi tulipata tip-off and that why we were at your house. Ilikuwa wewe na bibi mumalizwe. The questions we are trying to answer, is why would she do that, and where she is now. Bure bado uko kwa ngori.’
George can’t believe it.

He thinks they are playing with him.

The cop opens the tab again. And then scrolls, showing Georgie gory images of 6 families killed either in their sleep or cold blood.

Hii yote, ni kazi ya Rose na jeshi yake. Na mlikuwa mnakujiwa.

Believe it or not.
He still doesn’t believe them. Because they have never once had a fight with Auntie, on whatever issue. She was the perfect help.

'She was always resourceful and kind, and always knew who to call when they needed help. Hatujawahi kuwa na shida na yeye.'
.
'Wait... who to call?'
A doctor comes in and tells him, they are taking him to the hospital to fix his hand.

He asks about his family, and they tell him asijali, watamwambia.

He asks why they killed his wife, but they don’t respond. He cries as the doctor injects his hand.

Shortly, he’s blacked out.

Housie wa number 19 was being mistreated. Ish ish.

By the way that housie was nice. Her nickname was Wikileaks.

She was head of DCI Housie's Branch huku. their house is near Min Moraa's shop and she'd tell the housies who bought what from the shop and it would always get to us.

They look around, before noticing, Thomas, the person they are here to meet.
They see him as he lightly waves his hand, almost standing. Thomas 35, is seated with another guy, Mustafa, 27. Somali as well.
.
Later, according to Thomas, all these guys looked the same, in every way, like… as if they were brothers.

Just before joining the road, he notices two cars on the side.

Mmh!
One with the trunk popped, the other with the bonnet up, looking like they are needing some helping.

They wait for him. He just waves at them, but he doesn’t slow down or stop.

Strange. He thinks.

Because it is way too early. to breakdow and get help.

Anyway, he drives on.

Yaani the lawsuit against Esto has taken a whole turn.

But first, how we got here.
.
Our Esto has 3 full time employment departments.
1, Security & Safety. 2, Engineering & Technical. 3, Grounds and Works. For real, these are actual jobs.

Security and safety is more obvious.
Engineering and technical hao ndio wanakuwanga na kazi mingi na ngumu.

Mara stima.

Mara pipe ime-burst, mara mtu anataka kuoshewa gari. Sijui Kenya Power ama Nairobi Water, sijui Safaricom wanataka kuweka net... All major issues that affect the whole esto, hiyo ni yao.
Grounds do the detail work. And detail mostly ni udaku na umbea with the housies and security peeps.

But for real, their work is to also to make sure the esto is clean always, the garbage guys don’t steal the cats and the playground, live fences don't look bad when guests come.
