731. Extraordinary stuff from Frydenberg, triumphalist Back in Black back boaster before last #ausvotes. SURELY with a record breaking deficit and covid widening income inequality the sane thing to do is delay or abolish the stage 3 tax cuts. Nope - let’s cut tax more!
732. B McKenzie demands the Clean Energy Finance Corporation finance carbon capture & storage research (a fantasy) to sustain coal mining. The mining industry hasn’t done it because it can’t be done. This is AWFUL, & she confirms there’s STILL no bloody plan!
#IndependentsDay!
733. The fix is in. If carbon capture and storage was viable big fossil fuel companies would have found a way by now. Yet to pretend to act on climate change the Govt INCREASES taxpayer already massive subsidies to the fossil fuel industry.

#IndependentsDay
744. While funding yet more fantasy carbon capture and storage research for coal, the Govt vetoed a loan for a massive renewable energy hub in Northern Australia.

#IndependentsDay
745. Gobsmacked. Some members of Libs & Nats have gone GOP mad - ANYTHING to own Labor, even promoting anti-vaccination to destroy unions trying to hold the line. The hard right in both Parties will take Oz down if we let them.

#IndependentsDay
846. PM doesn’t want to go to Glasgow, which means he also won’t attend the G20 - a meeting of the leaders of the top world economies. My take - the #ScottyfromMarketing climate change ‘plan’ won’t wash because it will be just another con.

#IndependentsDay
747. PM claims Gladys as ‘a dear friend’. Oily deceitful as always.

#IndependentsDay

smh.com.au/national/even-… Image
848. Wonderful news for the ‘Voices for’ #IndependentsDay movement. A tragedy that an ugly Nats #ausvotes campaign & an idiotic ALP candidate who trashed @RobOakeshott1 throughout it deprived #CowperVotes of an outstanding indie MP. A @simonahac thread:-
750. The @NoFibs #IndependentsDay coverage last #ausvotes featured @RobOakeshott1’s 2019 campaign for #CowperVotes. Here’s his camapign video, filmed and produced by @squig_. Is there a ‘Voices for Cowper’ group?

851. Morrison will NOT legislate any climate change targets
or any system of accountability to get there. It’s huff & puff to get him to the election & if he wins office who knows? The Libs remain captive of the Nats and Lib hard right.

#IndependentsDay
752. The obvious counter to people of all political colours who care so much they’ve found common ground for Oz & our children’s sake.

Put ‘em back in their tribes. Divide & conquer for donors & status in their hard right tribe.

Will it work?

theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/bewar…
753. I’ve been around a long time. Instant reaction all very well & I’ve done it for years now. I’m gunna stop that, check Twitter once a day for crucial stories, and write a weekly column for @NoFibs about the most important #ausvotes in my lifetime. I believe Oz is special.
754 NSW, perhaps last State Lib Party where moderates have serious power after a takeover by the hard right elsewhere, puts the Federal Govt to shame on climate change policy. I see the #IndependentsDay movement as a fascinating way to regain liberalism’s influence in Canberra.
756. Oh dear, looks like Barnaby just cancelled Morrison’s pledge last #ausvotes for a Federal Integrity Commission. The Govt promised to introduce its weak bill this year, now what?

##IndependentsDay
757. Morrison not even waiting for the ICAC hearings into alleged political corruption by Gladys - tells the story eh? My feeling is she won’t stand at #WarringahVotes.
758. Yep, looks like Morrison will find a way to break his pledge last #ausvotes to enact a Federal Integrity Commission. No surprise.

#IndependentsDay
859. The Carbon Capture and Storage con rolls on under Morrison.

#IndependentsDay
760. Federal Govt not serious about addressing climate change. It just isn’t. True Liberals were & are, from Peacock and Hewson in the 1990s to @TurnbullMalcolm & NSW Govt now. The Federal Party has left liberals, giving them no choice in blue ribbon seats except #IndependentsDay
861. The same 2030 target @TurnbullMalcolm suggested at the Press Club last week. If Morrison pledges anywhere near that it will be a con so no wonder he won’t go to Glasgow.

Glasgow was put off for a year due to COVID, yet here we are still without a plan.

#IndependentsDay
862. Here we are. PM says everything’s working well in Canberra without a Federal Integrity Commission, current law ‘can be built upon’. He’s broken his promise for a FIT last #ausvotes just like that. Gladys as cover.

So easy, huh?

#IndependentsDay

https://t.co/xAwE7sABbd Image
763. The @HelenHaines Federal Integrity Commission bill won support for Parliamentary debate from ALP, Greens & EVERY Reps & Senate Crossbencher bar Pauline. It’s different to NSW one, but strong. #IndependentsDay candidates gunna have fun with ‘all good, no need’ from Lib MPs.
764. Oh, after promising to enact a Federal Integrity Commission last #ausvotes, under pressure producing a very weak draft & pledging to introduce it before year’s end, Govt now ‘hopes’ to do so. The strong @helenhainesindi bill has been ready for a long time.
#IndependentsDay
766. Dennis on his own predicting #ausvotes this year; PM’s sudden attacks on Qld his best argument. It means PM breaking his promise last election for a Federal Integrity Commission, a weak spot given Labor’s pledge & #IndependentsDay candidates backing @helenhainesindi bill.
767. Zooming into 1st @KyleaTink Town Hall hosted by resident @MichaelPascoe01, next 1 Oct 20.

1. How will you preference?

Won’t direct preferences.

2. What would you do if a hung Parliament?

Require strong climate change action & a strong Federal Integrity Commission.
768. Regret voting Liberal last election?

She liked Trent Zimmerman. Won’t say if she regrets it. His voting record is the same as Barnaby Joyce and that’s not what she wants for her, her kids & her community. Parliamentary politics is broken; voters need to break the gridlock.
769. Why shouldn’t I vote for Trent, a strong climate change voice? Wouldn’t he be more effective than an indie?

Kylea: His vote subjugated to the party line, always. His Govt still investing in fossil fuels & refusing to invest in great renewable projects. We can force change
770. Policy development?

Kylea: I’m no expert, talking with residents, and will continue to do so if I win.

Biloela family?

Makes no logical sense & lacks compassion, will insist they all return to Biloela. She was part of a campaign years ago to get kids out of detention.
771. Do you support Uluru Statement request?
@KyleaTink: Yes. Most voters in #NorthSydneyVotes want to & so do I.

How to reduce decisiveness btwn city-country?

As Coonabaraban girl, division overstated on climate change. Country people into renewables - need transition plan
772. Can you believe PM is not going to Glasgow?

@KyleaTink. Yes. Shows his true intent on climate policy. Unacceptable to stay home - it’s his job to go. If he doesn’t go I’d expect an election this year.
773. So much common ground btwn moderate liberals, Labor, Greens in blue ribbon seats - CC action, strong Federal Integrity Commission, Biloela Family, Uluru Statement. Getting together to vote for a liberal independent can force change most voters want. Love it. Go @KyleaTink!
774. Check out my November 2020 #transitzone pod wrap on on how enormous pressure to debate the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission bill saw the PM suddenly release a draft weak bill, reviving his election pledge. Dumped under cover of Gladys. podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/tra… Image
785.The @helenhainesindi #transitzone Nov 2020 interview after PM stalled a vote to debate her Federal Integrity Commission bill by releasing a weak bill. An election pledge to enact one, now just a pledge - to be broken - to introduce it by year’s end.
podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/tra…
787. PM’s way to stop curbs on political corruption.

1. Pledge a FIT at #ausvotes
2. Sit on draft for a year.
3. Release after pressure on his MPs to debate @helenhainesindi bill.
4. Do zilch till rorts scandals, pledge to introduce by end of 2021.
6. Dump at first chance.
788. You know that weak FIT bill Morrison pledged after rorts scandals to introduce by year’s end? The one he planned to let die in the Senate anyway and now wants to can? It’s garbage - and rorts off limits to boot.

#IndependentsDay in safe Coalition seats!
789. Shameless. PM’s draft Federal Integrity Commission bill so different from NSW ICAC model it gives virtually no power to do anything to hold politicians accountable for anything. Big mistake imo to make a fuss over Gladys. Draws attention to his joke.

afr.com/politics/feder… Image
790. For info on @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission bill, which won the support for debate of Labor, Greens & every HofR & Senate crossbencher right to left bar Pauline, see here. Plus the history of PM’s endless delays & pretend alternative.
helenhaines.org/bills/integrity
791. @Paul_Karp colour-coded thread on PMs joke draft Federal Integrity Commission bill compared to every State law & @helenhainesindi bill backed by ‘Voices for’ independents in safe Coalition seats.

Can’t imagine why he’s gunna break his election promise.

#IndependentsDay
792. You know how politics is supposed to be about service? Under PM’s draft Federal Integrity Commission bill it couldn’t investigate political corruption like mates favours, conflicts of interest, rorts. Just actual crimes. And no real power anyway. The joke is on us voters.
793. I reckon time’s up for PM on a Federal Integrity Commission. Hoping @helenhainesindi moves a motion to allow debate on her bill - not the ICAC model - and proves to voters that no Coalition MP wants a real one. Well past time to cleanse federal politics.

#IndependentsDay
794. CORRECTION! So sorry, @HelenHaines. Pauline Hanson also backs Parliamentary debate on Helen’s Federal Integrity Commission bill. That means Labor, Greens and every Crossbencher including Bob Katter & Pauline on the right through Jacqui Lambie to the left wants ACTION!
795. Full report by @cpi_aus on the PM’s the-jokes-on-us Federal Integrity Commission bill.

#IndependentsDay
796. The @MakeItABigDeal film about our corrupted democracy & how voters can heal it to screen on the ABC. It’s brilliant, explaining why we desperately need a strong Federal Integrity Commission and why the PM doesn’t. Think climate change ‘policy’…

#IndependentsDay
798. Fantastic #pressclub question from @jekearsley to Paul Fletcher. Why haven’t voters got the right to know how car park rorts decisions made? Electorate spreadsheets refused under FOI. I followed current law. Political corruption thrives without a strong FIT. @VoicesBradfield
799. @LisaVisentin asks Fletcher how many promised car parks have been built & how much has been spent (ie how many rorts promises were crap). #pressclub

“We’ve been very transparent”
(see previous tweet). Then blather.

#BradfieldVotes @VoicesBradfield
800. Congrats to press gallery for trying to get answers on mega-rorted, unresearched, in some cases fake, car park grants last #ausvotes. No luck with Paul Fletcher. Great to hear new NSW Premier disavowing pork barrelling as not governing for all on merit. @VoicesBradfield
802. Oh dear, again. Jeez we need a strong Federal Integrity Commision.

#IndependentsDay
803. The human & economic cost of not acting on climate change far outweighs the cost of acting, yet the hard right controlled Coalition has relentlessly infantilised the debate. No long term transition plan and here we are, #IndependentsDay
804. Coalition attempts to portray the #IndependentsDay movement in safe Coalition seats as a Green-Labor front entirely misses the point. Most Australians want a real climate change transition plan and the Coalition is the roadblock. Latest proof:-
805. JFC. A coal TAX to subsidise coal, $250 BILLION in taxpayer loans to fossil fuel miners, miners and farmers excluded from net zero target. The Nats price. Horrific. Corrupt. Disqualifying.

#IndependentsDay Image
806. Liberal voters in blue ribbon seats, want a powerful counter to the Nats and hard right Libs running Oz into the ground on climate change? Vote for a liberal community independent like @helenhainesindi so your voice has clout again and can help progress Oz.

#IndependentsDay
808. True to the PM’s form. #IndependentsDay MPs would help fix this.
809. FACTS on how ICAC operates, & the current MP for #WebtworthVotes says no to a Federal Integrity Commission investigating unethical political conduct or decisions. Criminal offences only, not unethical conduct or decisions. Integrity?Gotta be joking.

#IndependentsDay
810. Mining magnate Gina Reinhardt - friend and backer of Barnaby - gives climate change denial speech to girls school. Follow the money and the National Party becomes the Miners Party and controls the Govt.

#independentsDay
811. PM-Barnaby climate change playbook to con voters:-

No legislated targets or policies to get there so crossing the floor avoided. The ‘plan’ just another election promise to cover up the Coalition’s CC wars. Community liberal independents imperative to force action. Image
812. Dec 2018, under Crossbench pressure, PM said a Federal Integrity Commission bill nearly ready. 2019 #ausvotes pledged one within a year. Nov 2020, under pressure, published weak draft bill. Now says he’ll introduce it soon, too late to pass pre-election.

#IndependentsDay!
8-3. It’s got to this. Barnaby says Govt can’t get serious on climate change because far right outside the Nats will defeat ‘em in some LNP seats.

It will never end until lib & nats voters in safe seats kick their parties up the bum by electing quality community independents.
814. We need negotiated consensus on climate change. We need a strong framework & generous transition plans for communities adversely affected. We need to work together in good faith. Every time we try hard right Libs & Nats torpedo it.

And they’ll never stop. Hi Gina & Clive.
815. In 2008 Rudd worked with @TurnbullMalcolm for an ETS consensus. Hard right rolled him. He lost leadership again when Labor, BCA & NFF backed NEG. After 2019 #ausvotes @AlboMP offered to work with PM on a consensus CC policy. Nope. Only rational Lib & Nat voters can fix this.
816. Voters won’t get politics cleaned up if they return the Coalition to power outright without liberal community independents. The link between political corruption & the lack of federal action on climate change is now blindingly obvious.

A pod on the PM’s sham FIC bill.
817. Hmmm, PM using Gladys as cover to slam the ICAC has brought the focus onto his lack of action on a federal body and his long delayed sham bill. ANOTHER podcast on election promise he won’t keep.

#IndependentsDay

podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the…
918. As retired judge Stephen Charles told @michellegrattan in her pod, Govt contracts to private sector worth billions a year - an invitation to bribery, job offers, you name it, with no oversight. Another reason for a strong Federal Integrity Commission.
#IndependentsDay
919. The Business Council of Australia’s also backed the @TurnbullMalcolm NEG, as did the NFF, but it didn’t matter to the hard right controlling the Govt.

#IndependentsDay
920. Surely rational voters have had enough of Coalition BS on climate change. Surely it’s cost us enough by now. Whatever PM invents to placate the Miner’s Party faction controlling the Nats and its own hard right it won’t be legislated and the war goes on.

#IndependentsDay
921. Meet @SophieScamps, the #MackellarVotes GP who’s spending all her spare time finding a liberal community candidate to serve voters with integrity, help us turn the corner on climate change and clean up federal politics. Our latest #transitzone pod.

#IndependentsDay
922. Murdoch media turns on a dime to help its Govt partner Morrison sell a last minute switcheroo message on climate change. Breathtaking.
#IndependentsDay
923. I suspect PM’s fake National Integrity Commission won’t see light of day in Parliament this year, despite his promises. It’s indefensible, as this Paul Fletcher performance shows. Community indies & Labor would have an #ausvotes open goal. #BradfieldVotes @VoicesBradfield
924. The #transitionzone pod will interview @helenhainesindi this arvo on what next for the push by the Crossbench, Labor & Greens to force debate on her Federal Integrity Commission bill - and get Coalition MPs on the record - before #ausvotes. Any questions you’d like asked?
930. Regional rorts expanded - early #ausvotes payoff to Barnaby for net zero support? Much more to come I’ll wager.

Jeez we need a strong Federal Integrity Commission. Hard to remember Back in Black before the last #ausvotes, ain’t it…

#IndependentsDay
931. A timeline to October 2020 on PM’s blatant stall-it-forever tactics to avoid a real Federal Integrity Commission. And, I think, avoid introducing his pretend version so his backbenchers aren’t put in peril having to vote for it.

#IndependentsDay

australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/upl…
932. Nearly a YEAR ago, PM stalled pressure on his backbenchers to cross floor to debate @helenhainesindi’s Integrity Commission bill by suddenly releasing his weak alternative bill. Since then? ZILCH. Here’s Helen on the #transitzone last November.

podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/tra…
933. In 2019 Attorney-General Porter promised Parliament and the people he’d introduce the Govt’s weak integrity commission bill by the end of that year. Why didn’t he? Even Coalition backbenchers were embarrassed and leery. So it was buried…

#IndependentsDay
944. Remember the days when local stuff was local govt, state stuff was State Govt & the Feds delivered on the big picture? Under this Govt its MPs PERSONALLY mega-pork to the base. Here’s Nats MP for Lyne in the tiny rural town of #Combyone weekly newsletter. Image
945. What I think will happen on a #federalicac: PM will introduce his sham bill then refer it to a Parliamentary committee to examine. That means his backbenchers spared political poison of voting for rubbish before #ausvotes. Can @HelenHaines force a vote on her bill?
946. The audit office with yet another damning report on the Morrison Govt’s now routine, chronic governance failures. Enormous procurement contracts are an invite to corruption - yet another reason we desperately need a Federal Integrity Commission.

#IndependentsDay
947. So federal Govt attacks hard when Vic integrity commission public hearings exposes political corruption in Vic Labor Party, yet bans public hearings in its sham #federalicac bill. No shame. Federal Labor pledges a strong one, including public hearings, if it wins #ausvotes
948. Cabinet climate change meeting Wednesday. Whatever deal is wrangled there’ll be no targets legislated before #ausvotes - this is a short term political fix for #ausvotes, folks.

#IndependentsDay
949. Oh dear. Gas won’t be phased out, mining industry to be ‘shielded’ by Govt in net zero ‘plan’, PM will go to Glasgow after all. Focus groups must have said voters & western allies wouldn’t accept his absence for the Prince Charles’ “last chance saloon”.

#IndependentsDay
950. Great point. Vick’s integrity commission is dealing with Labor rorting federal taxpayer money because we have no Federal Integrity Commission - & the PM’s sham proposal would give its commission no power to investigate it, let alone have public hearings.

#IndependentsDay
951. Here we go again on politically corrupt grants - no wonder Morrison doesn’t want a Federal Integrity Commission with teeth.

#IndependentsDay
952. JFC. No 2030 target, no legislation, con is coming. Can you believe the spin - a target breaks an election promise! Oh yeah, the election where climate change no big deal & Labor’s climate policy torn to shreds by cheap slogans & fake fear-mongering.

#IndependentsDay
953. Corrupting a semi-judicial body with appointments of mates who KEEP THEIR LOBBYING JOBS and don’t even work much the latest descent into kleptocracy and poisoning of our public institutions and watchdogs by this awful Government.
#IndependentsDay
854. Still wonder why the PM doesn’t want a strong #federalicac and slashed funding for the Audit Office? Billions spent on procurement contracts and only a beaten-down powerless public service subject to governance rules. A recipe for kleptocracy.

#IndependentsDay
956. @helenhainesindi pulling out all stops to force Coalition MPs to vote on a strong Federal Integrity Commission, says ‘Integrity & climate are inextricably linked’. My news story from the #transitzone pod interview up tomorrow. Go get ‘em on #qanda Helen!

#IndependentsDay
957. Political corruption never ends under Morrison’s Govt. No way we’ll ever get a decent #federalicac without a Labor win or a minority Coalition Govt needing independents to govern - EVERY Crossbencher demands one.

#IndependentsDay
NSW Premier supports ICC as important anti-corruption body & to he’l consider even stronger independent oversight. Comes after he rejected pork barrelling as unethical & demanded Feds set 50% target by 2030. A relief to hear - NSW Libs a different Party to the Feds. #730Report
959. How on earth can this be justified? The Morrison Govt doesn’t govern. Incompetent? Corrupt? The combination will destroy us. #ausvotes

#IndeoendentsDay
960. Imagine where Oz would be today if the Coalition had led on climate change instead of derailing federal leadership on climate change in 2007, 2011 and 2018 & at the 2019 #ausvotes.

972. WOW! Lib Bragg supports public hearings, ruled out in PMs draft bill - still not introduced to Parliament - & by Paul Fletcher Sunday.

+ power to investigate corruption that’s not criminal, again ruled out in PM’s draft.

BIG movement by the Govt under pressure?

#qanda ImageImage
973. The Coalition caused this over 13 years. Destroyed Rudd’s ETS, Julia’s carbon price and Turnbull’s NEG. Now rushing to a sleazy deal when no choice left but with NO LEGISLATION to keep ‘em honest.

975. The @markdreyfusQCMP announcement on #qanda that Labor supports the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission Bill, not just Parliamentary debate on it, a HUGE policy announcement.

It means Labor & liberal independent MPs & candidates are united on a FIC for #ausvotes
977. Hmmm, Lib backbenchers’ sudden, last minute call for a tougher Govt Federal Integrity Commission bill. FIT & climate change - the major policy platforms of ‘Voices for’ liberal independents in blue ribbon seats - come to a head when Parliament sits Monday. People power!
978. Don’t let Liberals fool you it’s now just the Nats in the way of a last minute climate change plan. The hard right liberal base is too. Here’s Qld LNP Senator Gerard Rennick calling Frydenberg a ‘woke Marxist’ for wanting net zero.

980. HAD to happen in Vic Nats regional seats: #NichollsVotes has a strong independent candidate focused on voters’ big issues as identified by @voices4nicholls. The non-partisan group chose not to select a candidate & will endorse a candidate in due course. Congratulations!
981. Please subscribe to the @gabriellechan rural news newsletter - she’s building a rural news network as papers die - crucial for our democracy. So much common ground! Great to see the Fairfax family funding the project - the old girl lives on.

994. Please follow @bertpriestly, the first quality climate change and clean-up-politics independent to put his hand up for a National Party seat. #NichollsVotes is next to Indi and Shepparton already has an #IndependentsDay State MP, @SheedSuzanna.

996. Proof NO merits or needs basis to PM’s car park grants at #ausvotes. Literally spraying taxpayer money to buy votes - then reneging in part on because some weren’t needed - ain’t governing. No wonder he opposes a serious Fed Integrity Commission. He’s unethical & dishonest.
997. NSW Govt deletes Morrison’s excuse not to go to Glasgow. ZERO quarantine for fully vaxed returning travellers from November 1.

1000. Gott love that the Govt’s hard right base, stoked by Murdoch media esp Sky after Dark, will HATE any net zero plan, even the con expected. A flight to Hanson/Palmer? The Coalition-Murdoch Govt finally wedged by 13 years of despicable wedges against Labor?

#IndependentsDay
1001. Ultimate end-game when major parties cultivate lies for votes. What the climate denialist hard right in Libs & Nats in partnership with Murdoch media did to destroy serious climate change policy for he last 13 years cannot be mended with a mind-bending last minute ‘pivot’.
1002. Oh, a climate EMERGENCY meeting of Liberal MPs Monday. LOL or cry, and vote your conscience at #ausvotes since the Coalition doesn’t have one on climate change.

#IndependentsDay
1003. So PM’s going to
Glasgow. 1 question on climate at presser: Image
-004. Transcript of #transitzone interview with @helenhainesindi - she’s gunna give the Coalition hell on its sham Federal Integrity Commission bill
& try real hard to make its MPs cast a vote on her strong bill backed by Labor, Greens and the entire Reps and Senate cross bench.
2005. Could press gallery explain why Nats’ leverage is so great? PM won’t legislate so no cross-floor threat in play. Would some Nats actively campaign against a decent CC policy, forcing rational Lib & Nats voters to kick him out? But Nats would lose power too. I don’t get it.
2006. A @simonahac thread on the how of the Govt’s lies on our climate change results. Whatever ‘the plan’ turns out to be it will be fact checked big time. #ausvotes our last chance saloon to catch up and maybe even lead in the race to save us all. #IndependentsDay
1007. The States did the hard policy work to lower our emissions in the vacuum of a National Framework killed 3 times by political terrorists in Lib & Nat hard right. I bet PM’s ‘plan’ with SLOGAN minus legislation to make it real won’t be one either.

#independentsDay
1008. Another establishment lobby group wants a 2030 target to cut emissions by 50%. When environment & industry groups get together you KNOW the #IndependentsDay movement is real, very real. Oz voters want a serious plan, they’ll get a political fix. WHY???
-009. Australian Industry Group says detailed policy design can come later but ambitious targets NOW. The @zalisteggall Climate Change Framework bill does just that - hope she can force a vote to prove whether rational liberal MPs have a conscience & the guts to exercise it.
1010. A big voter majority wants a serious transition plan for climate change mitigation Instead, despite a year’s delay for Glasgow, PM cobbling together a last-minute political fix. No wonder #IndependentsDay movement in safe Coalition seats has legs. Yearning desperation.
1011. Any ‘modern liberal’ MPs considering resigning from the Party and standing as liberal independents committed to a serious CC transition plan, maybe even the @zalisteggall CC bill? They’d win their seats easy. They’d lose their Party Tribe - is that all politics is to them?
10-2. Can’t blame Labor lying low on CC - too many Coalition knockout punches. How about negotiating with liberal independent @zalisteggall’s on her CC Framework bill for legislated targets & daring ‘modern liberals’ to do the same?

#IndependentsDay

1013. @murpharoo analysis of very public climate change war within Govt pre-Glasgow (Govt MPs analyse each word in the Oz, PM’s ‘stenographer’). Biz and environment leaders join forces to ask the PM to LEAD, but he won’t. It’s all about the ‘fix’ & the slogan to sell it.
1014. #GippslandVotes Nats MP @DarrenChesterMP sounds like independent @HelenHaines in another Vic regional seat - demands a Regional Plan on climate change, energy, jobs, services. Backs net zero & demands constructive engagement. There are now TWO National Parties.
1015. Morrison Govt’s appeal against a judicial finding that the environment minister owes a duty of care to children when deciding whether to approve new coal mines starts Monday. Fascinating thread.

#IndependentsDay
1016. Why does Morrison let a small number of hard right political terrorists in the Nats and Libs control climate change policy AGAIN. And why don’t ‘modern liberals’ take charge - why do they always toe the rock-no-boats line?

#IndependentsDay Image
1017. Oh’ @SenKatyG tells #insiders Labor has set out its ‘principles’ for a #federalicac. Umm, @markdreyfusQCMP told #qanda Labor “supported” the @HelenHaines bill. He misspoke, huh? For goodness sake, Labor, bite the bullet. Prove your good faith NOW.
1018. Not enough for Labor to go to #ausvotes with an outline for a #federalicac. Trust low in both parties, PM on ropes with his delayed sham bill. Labor PROVES good faith by pledging immediate enactment of the @helenhainesindi bill as @markdreyfusQCMP pledged on #qanda.
1019. Labor joining with #independentsday community independents in safe Coalition seats pledging the @HelenHaines Federal Integrity Commission a powerful weapon at #ausvotes & a millstone round the necks of sitting Libs & Nats. For goodness sake, Labor, bite the bullet.
1021. @AmyRemeikis on the Coalition climate change mess over 8 long years. Increase in 2030 or 2050 targets = broken election promise made to destroy Labor. BIG ammo against PM for Coalition climate denialists - that why so desperate to get their agreement?

#IndependentsDay
1021. Phil Coorey digs up 2017 Morrison quotes debunking the “clean coal” myth - hmmm - in his story from the PM’s political perspective. And notes how he, Murdoch media & the BCA destroyed Labor’s last election CC policy & now embraces its targets. Horrible.

#IndependentsDay
1022. Barnaby rules out ANY increase in the 2030 emissions target before hosting the Nats climate change partyroom meeting. Even the Australian Industry Group says we need a 50% target for 2030.

Thanks, real PM.

#IndependentsDay
1023. Barnaby quote rejecting any increase in 2030 target. If that holds PM won’t go to Glasgow - clear breach of our Paris commitment & makes him, & us, a laughing stock - if the matter was funny.

Barnaby laughed but Lib MPs under threat from #IndependentsDay liberals didn’t.
1024. @CroweDM with all the Barnaby quotes ruling out an increase in the 2030 target. Want more proof that the PM is Barnaby’s hostage? His energy mi outer Angus Taylor will pitch the PM’s draft ‘plan’ to the Nats’ partyroom.

#IndependentsDay
1026. Matt Canavan’s climate change denialism in an essay. Net Zero by 2050 is ‘woke’. Not a word on costs of CC. He lays out PM’s hypocrisy after trashing Labor’s net zero pledge at #ausvotes. Surely LNP will dis-endorse him as 2 on Qld Senate ticket? No?

#IndependentsDay
1027. Hoping Labor negotiates with @zalisteggall to demand debate on her Climate Change Framework Bill to legislate 50% target 2030, net zero 2050. Make moderate Lib MPs cross floor or vote no. Disgusting Coalition paralysis 2 weeks before Glasgow.

#IndependentsDay
1028. Glasgow was meant to be a bloody year ago! What sort of idiocy led to this crap 2 weeks before the summit begins. It’a crap. And the PM isn’t game to legislate whatever targets he can get because the hard right would cross the floor. #IndependentsDay
1029. JFC, most Nats don’t even back the net zero by 2050 target! No hope for a decent 2030
target - the PM and Oz are stuffed when (if) he goes to Glasgow.

#IndependentsDay
1030. Great to see you back in the saddle Rob. How much better off would we be if Abbott and co hadn’t abolished the Gillard—Windsor-Oakeshott-Greens carbon pricing framework for transition. Bloody tragic, and Unforgivable.

#IndependentsDay
1031. There it is: a flat NO from the Nats to increase our 2030 target, even though the Govt claims we’ll beat it anyway, and yes to net zero by 2050 if we’re bribed BILLIONS. Power without responsibility, as cynical as it gets.

#IndependentsDay Image
1032. Lib voters in blue ribbon seats, want to know what true Libs would do to address climate change? @zalisteggall’s bill.

Ludicrous PM to pay billions to Nats for bare minimum net zero 2050. As for 2030 target to get us there, proof of good faith, no.

#IndependentsDay
1032. As we endure latest round of climate denier Nats & and Libs holding the Coalition majority to remain by political terrorism, it’s obvious voters need to get rid of them until a genuine plan has settled in. For Coalition voters in safe Coalition seats, #IndependentsDay!
1033. PM caves to Nats, won’t take a stronger 2030 target
to Glasgow, just ‘projections’. Why don’t LIBERALS who care about climate change threaten to cross floor to vote for a 2030 target? Why do they ALWAYS play nice despite hard right political terrorism?

#IndependentsDay
1034. The #qanda video where @markdreyfusQCMP pledges to enact the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission bill
if Labor elected. Ta @Qldaah.

1. “We would support Helen’s bill.”

2. “I’m very much hoping we will get elected (so) we can do this.”

https://t.co/OyZK2Oni3N
1035. PM tells Lib Party-room he will NOT update Abbott’s 2015 low target for 2030 at Glasgow.

If moderate Lib MPs accept that it’s game on for #IndependentsDay. Pathetic, defies pleas of large & small business desperate for a real transition framework.
smh.com.au/politics/feder…
1036. What do Dave Sharma & other ‘modern liberals’ do now, after PM caved to some hard right Nats to rule out ANY increase in Abbott’s 2015 target for 2030. If they do nothing #IndependentsDay community candidates in blue ribbon seats are super-charged.

google.com.au/amp/s/amp.sbs.… ImageImage
1037. Oh, ‘modern liberal’ Jason Falinski on Sky is cool with no higher 2030 target. So weak. So useless. How is your #MackellarVotes candidate search going, @SophieScamps?

@MackellarVoices
1038. Net zero by 2050 is bare minimum to enter the room in Glasgow, yet he & Jason Falinski selling PM’s decision to go@there - after bribing Nats we don’t know how much yet - as heroic win. No increase in Abbott’s low 2015 target for 2030 a huge loss for Oz. #IndependentsDay
1040. @TurnbullMalcolm points out that the Paris Agreement we signed up to requires Oz to raise our targets every 5 years. The PM refusing to raise Abbott’s low target for 2030 a breach of Paris and shows PM still unserious about addressing climate change.

#IndependentsDay
1043. @TurnbullMalcolm on #afternoonbriefing - 121 countries, States, every business group committed to net zero 2050. Bare minimum - real issue is 2030 target. We pledged in Paris to increase it & Morrison ‘caught in the vice’ of hard right backed by fossil fuel miners & Murdoch
1044. Turnbull: The planet is running out of time on Climate Change and the patience of the world and biz is running out. We are laggards controlled by climate denialists in the Nats & Labor can now safely match the NSW Lib Govt’s target. #afternoonbriefing
1045. @zalisteggall: The PM is the child who didn’t do his homework till the night before the exam. No higher 2030 target = climate denial. Proof is recent Govt approval of 4 new coal mines when we MUST substantially reduce emissions in the next 10 years. #IndependentsDay
1047. ‘Modern liberals’ stay gutless. No surprise. Won’t even debate a motion to support net zero by 2050 let alone vote their conscience to say yes.

Time for #IndependentsDay in blue ribbon seats for true liberals to regain a powerful voice in Canberra.
1049. Carbon capture and storage - the clean coal myth - will be part of the PMs CC plan too. In 2017 PM said clean coal was not commercially viable -

#IndependentsDay
1050. Nats MP where I live opposes 2050 net zero! #LyneVotes ripped apart by fire & floods last 2 years, relies on farming & tourism. David Gillespie NOT representing voters. In #Comboyne NSW & Council asked us to make ‘resilience plans’ for CC emergencies.

#IndependentsDay
1052. Grattan, deadpan. Coalition dragged to 2050 net zero while the rest of the world goes for higher 2030 targets. And no ‘technology not taxes’ except we’ll spend billions of taxpayer money instead.

#IndependentsDay
1053. Thank you, Tim Colebatch, economics editor at @theage in Canberra when I was in the bureau. The net zero conflagration is all bullshit, folks. Back to the wall #scottyfrommarketing stuff.

#IndependentsDay Image
1054. It’s brilliant and an ad for #IndependentsDay I reckon.
1055. I’m in. As @helenhainesindi told the #transitzone, integrity and climate change are so inextricably linked”.

nofibs.com.au/haines-declare…
1057. Unsurprisingly, EU’s ambassador to Oz says if we must upgrade our 2030 target or face a carbon tax for our exports. Without a big stick climate change’s carbon tax destroys us. Shocked the PM thinks he can get away with taking Abbott’s target to Glasgow.
#IndependentsDay
1058. If only NFF head @afsnsw would stand as an independent at #NewEnglandVotes to beat Barnaby & pledge to rejoin the Nats if she wins. Instant clean-up - if Barnaby stays its hard not to see a National Party split. Big win for seat, party, nation, planet.

#IndependentsDay
1059. There it is - PM gave Nats Nats $3 million from taxpayers on a feasibility study for a NEW coal-fired power station in Collinsville before last election. A Barnaby bottom line now - yep, you guessed it.

The Gina & Co climate denial Party - how can rational Nats not split?
1060. As @Senator_Patrick preps a Senate vote on the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission bill, PM’s year old weak bill published to stop Haines’ momentum for a Reps vote is being ‘refined’.

Background, Timeline, PM tactics, Haines’ plan here nofibs.com.au/haines-declare… ImageImage
1071. #IndependentsDay in National Party seats held by climate deniers.
1072. Abbott abolished the Climate Change Commission in 2013 because his Govt didn’t want to officially hear about the problem or the solutions. Australians crowdfunded to replace it with the @climatecouncil.

We’d be so well placed if the Coalition gave a shit about our future.
1073. The hard right’s political terrorism on climate change will never ever end.

#IndependentsDay
1074. A keeper - so true it hurts.
1075. Bridget McKenzie is a VICTORIAN Senator, where Nats MPs want net zero and the State Party feels the same. Vic Nats rep the agricultural sector, not fossil fuel miners. Why is she in lockstep with Canavan? Please explain!

#IndependentsDay
1076. Jeez, Barnaby dumps on NSW Nats’ jobs claims for a big renewables project in his seat - which he seems to oppose! Something is rotten here - gotta think a breakaway Party is possible. Nats have split in all but name.

#IndependentsDay

https://t.co/LjspAmSYIV
1077. Secret donors to MPs is cool to every Coalition MP. Porter escapes ANOTHER inquiry thanks to PM. Coalition MPs degraded Parliament - laughably called The People’s House - & humiliated the Speaker they elected.
Oz NEEDS a strong #federalicac & PM NEEDS there not to be one.
1078. And the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Commission bill is set for Senate debate and vote.

Only the Coalition opposes it.

No one wonders why any more.

#IndependentsDay
1079. So what’s its differences to the @hekenhaines Federal Integrity Commission @markdreyfusQCMP told #qanda Labor supported and would enact if Labor won? Why not have a joint ticket with the Crossbench?
1080. Chilling, just chilling. Yet another way to shut down criticism of politicians by citizens - make the taxpayer pay ‘em to sue for defamation.

#IndependentsDay. #march4justice
1081. Oh dear, endless #qt stonewall from the Govt on its endlessly delayed, ludicrously weak Commonwealth Integrity Commission bill. Hope Labor stays on the front foot on this one.
1083. Sydney QC & director of @cpi_aus Geoffrey Watson says ‘Something has gone wrong with this Govt’ and it needs to go after its unprecedented trashing of Parliamentary oversight of Porter. Says Sharma & Zimmerman should cross the floor. #WentworthVotes #NorthSydneyVotes ImageImage
294. I listened in on the candidate selection interviews, will be there - love the surprise factor :)
#HumeVotes #IndependentsDay
1085. Wow! #IndependentsDay in safe Coalition seats can end the Climate Wars amid repair our broken democracy.
1086. This sounds right. The ‘Plan’ will be rubbish - already we know there’ll be more new coal & gas fields approved, ‘clean coal’ fantasy will funded more, maybe a new coal-fired power station stays on table…

It’s still a hard right climate denial Govt, folks
#IndependentsDay
1087. Sharma wouldn’t cross the floor to debate the @helenhainesindi Federal Integrity Bill would he? He wants to be seen as trying for a decent FIC though - polling must be good for #IndependentsDay in #WentworthVotes. A shame he voted down the Speaker to protect Porter…
1088. Now comes proof of BS: PM will refuse at Glasgow to phase out coal-fired power generation by 2030. Has to be done, we won’t do it.

#IndependentsDay
1089. I missed this - Porter would have gone to Privileges Committee to decide whether his ‘blind trust’ - size of gifts & donors secret - because the Govt refused to let @HelenHaines1 and another Crossbencher vote! Broken democracy indeed.

#IndependentsDay
1090. Oh, ‘modern liberal’ Liberal MPs say they voted down the Speaker’s ruling that Porter should be sent off to the Privileges Committee to inquire if his ‘blind trust’ broke disclosure rules WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THEY WERE VOTING FOR. Enough!

#IndependentsDay
1092. The @helenhainesindi pod with @murpharoo on the push to pass her Federal Integrity Commission this year. Won’t happen - only the Govt opposes - so Vote 1 for your #IndependentsDay candidate in safe Coalition seats to get it done.

#IndependentsDay
1093. Sunday hot take watching @Matt_KeanMP on #Insiders PERSUADING on strong climate change action. PM squibs = intolerable position for ‘modern liberals’ - arguing against their own State party. Threat - resign en masse, stand as indies in blue ribbon seats. A Party Split.
-094. NSW Treasurer @Matt_KeanMP in one interview destroys all the PM’s climate change slogans & tricks, throws in a slapdown of Nats’ nuclear dream for good measure. PMs refusal to lead is red lighting now.

#IndependentsDay
1095. After last election @AlboMP basically begged Govt to hold talks with Labor to find bipartisan consensus on climate change - an end to Climate Wars. Must be so weird for ALP to feel on front foot after so many punches to the face for trying to do the right thing. #insiders
1096. Nikk Savva: Why protect Porter when doing so trashed Parliament, defied Speaker, subjected Lib MPs to voter hostility & increased momentum for #federalcac? Porter resign threat, so by-election? Donor ID red hot? #Insiders

#march4justice #IndependentsDay
1097. Still reeling from NSW Lib Treasurer @Matt_KeanMP on #Insiders with a top draft of Labor’s climate change election policy & takedowns of Govt’s fraud. End game of Coalition’s abject refusal to address climate change policy. Most voters blue red green yellow - want it done.
1098. Here comes Clive & Craig from climate denial anti-vax hard right. The further right you go the further base wants to go. Feels like Nats split & Libs split now on cards - realignment essential to bring back good federal policy & governance? Bipartisanship, anyone? #insiders
1099. Sacrificing your kids future to stay in power a bit longer, you mean? Seems only voters care about that now, and now it’s in our hands, for our children and theirs. The Govt’s sole purpose is personal power and the smell is putrid. #Insiders #IndependentsDay
1100. As we await the PM’s fake climate change ‘plan’ here’s my mission for @NoFibs this #ausvotes. Gunna be my swan song on Twitter and in my headspace - a different life after this watershed election for Oz.

#IndependentsDay
1101. @Jansant cut his teeth as a @NoFibs citizen journalist on the 2013 #IndiVotes campaign won by @Indigocathy. He’s our #IndependentsDay regional Oz reporter for 2022 #ausvotes.

Wayne’s intro post:-
1102. The @adropex journey from observing 2013 #IndiVotes to @NoFibs citizen journalist and analyst of the ‘Voices for’ movement. Lesley will also explain the demographic shifts needed for #IndependentsDay candidates to win in safe Coalition seats.

#ausvotes
1103. @burgewords began writing for @NoFibs by reporting #BowmanVotes at the 2013 #ausvotes. He edited our #NewEnglandVotes coverage last election and will do it again this time. And he subedits my posts, thank goodness :)

#IndependentsDay
1105. So @Jansant, @adropex, @burgewords & I are your NoFibs #IndependentsDay citizen journos for #ausvotes. Huge thanks to @geeksrulz for revamping our site - he’s been my hero since her made me a site in 2012 when I took to Twitter after 7 years forced retirement.
1106. @MediaActive and I will focus on #IndependentsDay on our #transitzone podcast. Please subscribe if you’re interested in the ‘Voices for’ movement for #ausvotes.

player.whooshkaa.com/shows/transitz…
1107. There it is - the PM has promised the Nats no policy change to transition from coal. His ‘plan’ is fake - the Coalition is STILL captive to the hard right political terrorists in his party and in the Nats. @TurnbullMalcolm

#IndependentsDay Image
1108. Your latest essential @murpharoo wrap on the state of ‘play’ in the Coalition’s refusal to take strong climate change action.
#IndependentsDay
1109. If only Rudd & Turnbull had pulled off a bipartisan ETS. If only Abbott hadn’t brutalised politics with his ‘carbon tax’ campaign. If only Turnbull’s NEG had survived the political terrorists who’ve controlled our CC policy for decades. If only the PM had done the WORK.
1110. Business big & small wants a bigger 2030 target, as does NFF, the NSW Liberal Govt, the ALP and liberal independents. Yet the political terrorists in the Nats and Libs can’t even agree on net zero by 2050, the barest minimum to help the world save us from CC catastrophe.
1111. Remember PMs broken promise, during #WentworthVotes’ byelection, to ban kids being expelled from private schools for being gay? He’s pledged a ‘Falou clause’ in the Religious Discrimination bill promised to the Christian Right that’s taken over branches in some States.

@HumansOfHughes in the process of choosing an #IndependentsDay community candidate.
418. I’m in safe Nats seat of Lyne, so I guess Craig Kelly’s new benefactor Clive Palmer is spreading the UAP’s net wide.

I’d like spam from political parties banned pronto.

Will Coalition again preference the UAP - even defector Craig Kelly - despite it’s anti-vax misinfo? ImageImage

Premier and PM for Sydney deserted NSW regions & Nats MPs betrayed everyone in their seats. Only an emerging catastrophe in Dubbo-Walgett, where the PM broke his pledge to vaccinate Aboriginal people as a top priority, does Gladys require a permit to leave Sydney. #Comboyne
2. Wanna know how Sydney-centric Gladys and the Nats in her Coalition are, how dismissive of the safety of NSW regional residents? Check out these new restrictions, which would have been in place from day 1 if they gave a shit. #Comboyne

3. NSW Police Commissioner says “biggest rorts” are Sydney residents improperly going to the regions. Been going on for weeks, even in #Comboyne, where cops didn’t even breach the offender when residents reported her. At least a permit is needed now. Where were the bloody Nats??
