ICYMI, this British scandal is extremely important for that country and several others.

PM Boris Johnson must resign. The sooner he does, the better.

IMO, there is no excuse for any elected or appointed official breaching lockdown rules like this.

In my experience both inside and outside government, such scandals from time to time can be forgiven BUT: not during a life and death national emergency like this pandemic.

One of the benefits of a Westminster system is that a PM or a government can be removed at any time.

Those involved in events that were both legally and morally/ethically wrong are not just out of touch with the needs of the public: they are clueless about PR and common sense; which often coincide.

Whatever country you're talking about, those at the top used to do better.

That's one of many things that are making this pandemic harder than it needed to be. Leaders, and their advisors, no longer act with "street level" instincts.

I think the only way to address it is to hold as many pairs of feet to the fire as we can, for as long as it takes.

Leaders and their advisors need to experience the natural consequences of treating the public with such extreme disregard.

Real life for the public, esp. the most vulnerable, has become very, very difficult. We are defenseless against the incompetence or abuse of "our leaders."

And completely predictably, bad actors like the dictators in certain authoritarian regimes are exploiting the crisis to further invade & occupy neighboring countries.

Somehow, we have to decide the level of resource to use at home, & abroad. Ignoring either is not an option.

The UK is in a delicate position right now - domestically and internationally.

Boris Johnson has lost the confidence of the public and of many MPs within his own party. It's not just the lockdown social events, of course. Multiple failures have become exposed.
