The public humiliation and flogging of people accused of being thieves, marauders and saboteurs is unacceptable, even with a trial these kind of punishments are brutal and must stop.
The price for defeating the invasion cannot be a breakdown of law and order across #Ukraine 🇺🇦
This is not to lecture a society going through war. Ukrainians are dealing with invasion, death & destruction as any other society would.
Abuses like these are wrong, but do not undermine Ukraine's full moral high ground to fight & defeat this invasion, but the abuses are wrong.
Here in the Netherlands we have a very similar history. After our liberation from the Nazis thousands of Dutch who associated with the Germans were rounded up. Women who often had done as little as kiss a German soldier were shaved in public or covered in tar.
It ended up being one of our more shameful parts in WW2 history. It didn't mean the Germans were right, that we Dutch deserved to be occupied or that we had no right to be liberated or resist occupation, but these "afrekeningen" (reckonings) were wrong nonetheless.

It should be clear by now that NATO membership was never the main issue. Ukraine's existence as an independent, democratic state is the problem, Putin made that very clear in his Feb 21st speech.
He doesn't think Ukraine should be separate from Russia & he'll always believe that
If an agreement could lead to peace it will only be a temporary peace, one which leave Ukraine weakened military, and gives the Kremlin time to reassess the situation, rebuild its military, and re-invade when the time is right.
Let's remember this is actually the second invasion of Ukraine by the Kremlin, during the first NATO-membership was not even an active goal of Kyiv.
If allowed, Putin will attempt a third one to complete his goals, the forceful annexation of Ukraine into his sphere of influence.
On this day 11 years ago (15/03/2011) the Syrian people rose up against one of the most brutal regimes of modern history & launched a revolution for freedom & democracy.
Today, across the liberated areas of #Syria, people are coming together like here in #Raqqa to mark this day.
#Syria: thousands have come together in #Idlib to mark the 11th anniversary of the Syrian revolution.
Some Syrians have also come to voice their solidarity with the people living under occupation in 🇵🇸🇺🇦.
#Syria: video of the moment the #FreeSyria flag was raised over #Idlib, in celebration of the 11th anniversary of the Syrian Revolution.
During the flag raising the Arab anthem Mawtini was played on speakers, a song many hope to see as the national anthem of a post-#Assad Syria.
#Ukraine 🇺🇦: in #Berdyansk people have surrounded the Russian soldiers standing guard.
In cities across the occupied parts of Ukraine people are rising up against the Russian invasion force.
#Ukraine 🇺🇦: residents of the #Kyiv suburb of #Irpin leave their embattled town over the remains of one of their main bridges, destroyed in the fighting.
#Ukraine 🇺🇦: another Russian warplane has been downed, this one was shot out of the skies over #Mykolaiv and crashed near the village of Ochakiv.
Before i go to bed I would like to mention that in the past week I, and many like me who try to cover the #Ukraine 🇺🇦 invasion as best as we can, have on occasion posted a video or photo which turned out to be old or taken out of context
I'd like to stress that whenever this was the case this was not an intentional spread of misinformation. In the speed of which footage, updates and other information comes to us, sometimes something slips passed without the proper verification
These are crazy times, which also means we work at a speed many of us have never experienced before, the constant flood of information can even for us be disorientating at times, which means mistakes could be made.
#Ukraine 🇺🇦: the mayor of #Mariupol is holding a press conference. He states the city has been facing heavy Russian shelling since the early morning but as of this moment remains under Ukrainian control.
Live footage if me just wanting this guy to get to the point and stop wasting everyones time with a revisionist and chronologically horrible history lesson.
Has a declaration of war speech ever been this boring?
Lmao the mere thought of Putin lecturing anyone on corruption
