1. Safety: The Moderna vaccine was tested on over 11 000 kids and they found no 'red flag' side effects. The usual was seen like a sore limb or fussing/crying. But even more serious side effects in older age groups, like Myocarditis, was not found in under 5 yrs old

2. Efficacy: The vaccine isn't as effective against the new variants, it's true. However in the 6mo - 2 yrs group, it had about 51% efficacy against Omicron variants. That's similar to some years of the flu vaccine & we know the flu vax helps reduce severity & spread

3. Innate immunity: She may have some immunity in utero when I was vaccinated but we know that's not nearly as effective as an actual vaccine itself. We also haven't caught covid yet so I wanted her to get the best chance at mounting a full immune response on her own

4. Helping the community: Kids are a major source of virus spread in society. We will be taking her out to public places in #yeg & #Alberta so we want to make sure she's protected AND protecting others who may not be able to get vaccinated or are immunocompromised

5. Modeling: The more kids who get vaccinated, the more confident other parents who are hesitant will feel to get their own kids vaccinated. I sympathize with parents who are unsure so I hope my story helps. We need to do this as team to truly beat covid!

6. In memory: We lost important people in our family & close circle of friends to covid. I lost patients. If they had been vaccinated, they would likely be here, meeting my baby. This is for them. We honour their memory by doing our best to prevent the spread of covid ❤️

I'm so happy she will have some covid protection going in to the Fall & I am confident in my decision. I found this webpage really helpful for anyone feeling hesitant
