However, the biggest IT #Algorithms of collecting, sorting, and naming things (#data) really never change. We just have new tools for #DataScience, #Datavisualization, and #datatransformation. As @bobdylan said: Man gave names to all the animals. 2/x

So the fundamental tasks of data management are collecting, naming, and sorting. (Tagging is another method of naming, just as indexing is an alternative algorithm to sorting.) 4/x

Big data tools like @hadoop and @HadoopMapReduce (and @GoogleOSS or @ApacheSpark siblings) still perform a lot of the same fundamental data tasks (collecting, counting, indexing, sorting) - but with gigabytes and terabytes of data. 5/x

A while back, @autienelle was talking about 4 types of overload. 1 Sensory, 2 Social, 3 Informational, 4 Emotional. See threadreaderapp.com/thread/1506045… So information overload is not the only problem. But it's my focus in this thread. 6/x

Taking a day of rest on Sunday is a great way to cope with information overload. 😃
