Yesterday, a review was announced into Australiaโ€™s defence posture and force structure. This is timely, necessary and may also provide a good foundation for a subsequent National Security #Strategy. Some thoughts on the review follow. 1/25 ๐Ÿงต
2/ In December 1941, Prime Minister John Curtin wrote about the security challenges facing our country in an article called "The Task Ahead". He described the following year, 1942, as one in which there would be โ€œan immense change in Australian lifeโ€.
3/ Curtin wrote about โ€œreshaping, in fact, revolutionising, of the Australian way of life until a war footing is attained quickly.โ€โ€ฆ

Back in May, I examined Ukraineโ€™s military strategy in a thread that I informally called โ€˜The Ukrainians are Masters of 21st Century Warโ€. Today, an update on the Ukrainian approach - the "strategy of corrosion". 1/25 ๐Ÿงต
2/ It is important we study the Ukrainian military #strategy and how they fight. It offers important insights for the modernisation of western military forces, many of whom remain mired in an intellectual quicksand of Cold War and COIN doctrines.
3/ During their invasion, Russiaโ€™s military has been forced by the Ukrainians to continually re-assess its strategic objectives. Russia has downgraded their political goals for #Ukraine, and the strategy for achieving them. The Ukrainians have fought & subverted Russian strategy.

As we seen the unfolding Ukrainian operations in southern Ukraine, it is worth pondering, what happens when Ukraine takes back the south? 1/21 ๐Ÿงต
2/ This region is a significant source of Ukrainian GDP. It is also the location of major power plants, and the ports through which goods are dispatched that represent over half of Ukraineโ€™s export earnings.
3/ Russian government agents, assisted by the military, are seeking to institute a range of Russian government systems to annexe Ukraineโ€™s southern region.

More than four months have passed since the beginning of the Russian invasion of #Ukraine. During the war, Russian and Ukrainian strategy has evolved. Today, an update on Russiaโ€™s #strategy in Ukraine. 1/22
2/ The aim of this is to provide insights into how Putin has evolved his โ€˜theory of victoryโ€™ in #Ukraine, and therefore provide a foundation for developing Ukraineโ€™s (and the Westโ€™s) defeat mechanisms against Russia.
3/ Throughout the conflict, many have explored Russiaโ€™s strategy for its subjugation of Ukraine. Because that is what Putin seeks โ€“ the absolute subjugation of the Ukrainian people, and the extinguishment of their sovereignty.

Alexander the Great is one of the greatest military commanders in world history. In 12 years, from a small kingdom in Macedonia, he built an empire extending from Greece to northwestern India.
But after achieving so much, his most excellent military strategy is something seen commonly and used by many empires throughout history.
Alexander's favourite military strategy was to have his troops maintain a tight rectangular formation. All his soldiers would wield a spear, sometimes as long as five metres made of shared metal-tipped wood.

November 2020: while still at #NATO, I was working on policy White Papers on #AI and on #autonomous technologies. Those were disseminated to Allied govts for feedback. They were not published, but we released a snapshot of the overall thinking here:โ€ฆ
In 2021, I came back to NATO for a while to draft the first version of a more developed #AI #strategy for the Alliance. That work was then negotiated by Allied govts and agreed in Oct 2021.

It's weekend and it's the end of the month. The #markets are closed.

So there is the perfect time to analyze the #momentum & relative #strength of the markets.

This information is relevant for all #investors, but especially for #trend #followers ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“ˆ

The #momentum of the markets are one of the most powerful forces in the evolution of the #asset #prices.

The #reversion to the mean is the opposite force, which is equally powerful. Momentum works on a short and medium term (up to 3 to 5 years).
There is a ton of academic research related to the momentum and the benefits of using it and relative strength. But presenting it this is not the purpose of this #thread.

Relative strength is actually a comparison between the #momentum of two or more #markets.

How will companies move into the Metaverse? Most platform-based businesses are already there. Google, Amazon, and Facebook are all platform native companies so they have a clear lane into the Metaverse.
#Metaverse #Strategy
Their businesses have always been digital-first and built on a platform with access to a business ecosystem or marketplace. Building an increasingly capable platform grew their accessible ecosystems.
#Metaverse #Strategy
Platforms remove barriers to scale so a company like Amazon could disrupt and rapidly take market share from retail incumbents. Google and Facebook entered emerging, very small ecosystems-Google for search and Facebook for social.

Most Data Strategies are missing a critical component. It's a Data Monetization Catalog, and they are not difficult to build. Here's my process:
#DataScience #MachineLearning #Data #Strategy
The process starts with the question, what use cases is this data used for? Use cases have business value, and it's a straight-line connection.
#DataScience #MachineLearning #Data #Strategy
I walk clients through this exercise, and it reveals excellent insights because data catalogs and dictionaries are connected to technical use cases but rarely to business use cases.

Here's what we most frequently find:

Companies need a technology turnaround right now and that's a huge opportunity for mid to senior Data Scientists and leaders.

Playing a key role in a turnaround is a career maker. I've been part of 4 and here are some lessons learned.
#DataScience #MachineLearning #Strategy
Companies only change when they've been through enough pain. That low point and the months immediately after it are where Data Scientists can put forward ideas that will gain traction. Don't push the elephant. Let it lead.
#DataScience #MachineLearning #Strategy
Companies usually plan without enough information to build a good plan. Data Scientists can help the business understand the possibilities created by our work. That knowledge is critical from the earliest stages.

It is 7 weeks since the Russian invasion of #Ukraine began. Today I examine how the Russians have fared in the ongoing adaptation battle, which is a feature in all wars. 1/25 (Image - @UAWeapons)
2/25 It is impossible for the military to anticipate every eventuality in war. With human capacity for surprise, resilience, and intelligence, as well as selfishness, cowardness and stupidity, there are a range of potential outcomes that are possible in warfare.
3/25 Michael Howard suggested in the โ€œThe Uses and Abuses of Military Historyโ€ that military institutions normally get the next war wrong, mostly for reasons beyond their control. As such, an important virtue for military organizations must be adaptability to unexpected events.

I get asked by young #entrepreneurs what is the cost and the output of R&D activities and how long would it take to reach certain milestones? There is considerable variability in the amount of investment in R&D needed to generate a patentable #invention 1/7 ๐Ÿฆ‹
When we started @Metamaterialtec with @timaras we found that #IBM spent about $6 billion on R&D in 2011 and generated 6,146 patents, implying an average R&D cost per patent of $976,000. At same year #Qualcomm, spent $2.3 billion on R&D and generated 1,000 patents, 2/7 ๐Ÿฆ‹
implying an average R&D cost per patent of $2.3 million. #DuPont spent $1.4 billion on R&D and generated 500 patents, implying an average R&D cost per patent of $2.8 million. Even when companies have access to this amount of cash, it takes several years to develop new tech ๐Ÿฆ‹ 3/7

1/ Surmising a revised Russian OPLAN. Here are my thoughts on what Russiaโ€™s revised operational plan may look like. I have constructed this off what I consider the most logical operational approach that can yield positive results. #UkraineRussianWar #UkraineUnderAttack #strategy
2/ Given Russian operational performance to date I realize that this assessment may end up being wildly off. Producing a reliable open-source analysis is difficult to say the least. Information is scarce & what is available is heavily weighted in favor of Ukraine.
3/ Still, to understand where this war is going, what conditions military operations will create in the coming weeks, and how they may set conditions for a negotiated settlement an attempt to surmise a logical course of action is necessary.

This is an overview and my thoughts on the project.
Obligatory NFA and DYOR. A giveaway of 2 Little Dippers Whitelist will be happening so read on and find out how to participate below!
2/ Project Europa seeks to bring the best parts of all previous projects and combine it with what the team believes is the best way forward. They have unique ways of controlling the number of collectors(nodes) being made alongside a cooldown mechanism to alleviate sell pressure.
3/ What truly differentiates @ProjecEuropa_ is the fact that they choose to gamify the whole user experience by having an interactive mini games in the protocol which allows you to interact with the protocol instead of just hitting the claim button everyday.

It is 43 days since the Russian invasion of #Ukraine began. Building on yesterdayโ€™s thread about Russiaโ€™s shift in emphasis to the east and what its campaign might look like, today I explore Ukraineโ€™s options to respond. 1/25 (Image -
2/25 Russia has made many errors in this war. And Ukraine has played its inferior hand well. It is a country that is smaller in size, population, economy, and military forces than its invader. In this war, Russia got the mass, but Ukraine got the brains and the heart.
3/25 The Ukrainians have out thought the Russian President, his advisors and the Russian military institution. The Ukrainians have been superior strategists, and this could still deliver them victory.โ€ฆ

1/ One cannot answer the question, "Does this make my existence better", without first defining a timeframe.

Therefore, if your goal is to make an effective plan for anything, you must keep a definable time period at the highest point of that hierarchy.

2/ Thus, if anyone is serious about manipulating their future for what they have defined as the greatest outcome, they will revere time above any other resource...and not just with their words.
