3/14. Then as the World Leaders Summit began we heard from @antonioguterres the @UN Secretary-General who called for all governments to tax the windfall profits of #FossilFuel companies and redirect that money to countries suffering #LossAndDamage:
5/14. We then heard from @NamugerwaLeah from #Uganda about the #LossAndDamage suffered by her community and how as a result of the event she will not rest until something is done about the #ClimateCrisis:
6/14. Then the Prime Minister of Barbados @miaamormottley highlighted that to address #LossAndDamage “talk must come to an end!” before saluting Belgium🇧🇪, Scotland🏴 and Denmark🇩🇰 for their modest actions on #LossAndDamage:
8/14. At 15:00 the first negotiations on the #SantiagoNetwork for #LossAndDamage began. In the informal session, both developing and developed country Parties acknowledged the importance of the #SantiagoNetwork and said they want it to be fully operational as soon as possible.
9/14. However, there was also an acknowledgement that there is a lot of work to be done to make this happen at #COP27 due to the operationalisation of the #SantiagoNetwork being a highly technical discussion that will require time to unpack before decisions can be made.
10/14. Parties also requested the @UNFCCC co-facilitators to provide draft text so that they can engage on these technical discussions in detail.
11/14. During the session, notable party interventions included the G77 and China who indicated that they want to focus on discussing the overall structural elements of the #SantiagoNetwork for #LossAndDamage.
12/14. Then the High-Level Segment continued with world leaders making statements including the President of Kenya @WilliamsRuto on behalf of the @AGNChairUNFCCC who made it clear that hundreds of millions of Africans are affected by #LossAndDamage now:
13/14. Tomorrow the 2nd informal consultation on the #SantiagoNetwork will take place at 11AM in meeting room 4 and the 2nd informal consultation on the ExCom of the Warsaw International Mechanism for #LossAndDamage will be at 12PM in meeting room 4. Both are open to observers.
1/16. Its day three at #COP27 and here is your #LossAndDamage focused daily thread. Today we saw several pledges of funding to address #LossAndDamage from developed countries and the start of negotiations on #LossAndDamage finance.
3/16. First up was continued negotiations on the operationalisation of the #SantiagoNetwork for #LossAndDamage during which parties continued to discuss the structure of #SantiagoNetwork including the potential for an advisory board, secretariat, focal points and network members.

1/16. #COP27 officially began today with the ceremonial opening taking place in the plenary this morning and we have already seen significant developments on #LossAndDamage. Here is our summary on day one of #COP27. 🧵
2/16. After opening the COP the @COP27P announced that "Matters relating to funding arrangements responding to #LossAndDamage associated with the adverse effects of #ClimateChange, including a focus on addressing #LossAndDamage." would be a sub-agenda item under finance.
3/16. Following the announcement, the @COP27P president expressed that he welcomed the decision, before praising the tireless efforts of civil society, to whom he said we owe a “debt of gratitude” for constant pressure to act on #LossAndDamage finance:
