In commemoration of the day, The Jakarta Post would also like to acknowledge some Indonesian heroes who have been overlooked for the government’s official designation.
Today we commemorate the Battle of Surabaya, which took place on Nov. 10. 1945. This is also the day when the government names new national heroes.
There are currently 195 people in the National Heroes list and among them are some polarizing figures.
The Jakarta Post would like to highlight some of the polarizing ones, not to diminish their contribution to the country’s history, but to show that heroes are also humans with flaws and imperfections.
