It's Day 263 of this war.
In 8 days it's the anniversary of the start of #Euromaidan protests in #Ukraine and subsequent Revolution of Dignity when the corrupt pro-#Russia president fled.
It's also 18 years since Moscow poisoned pro-West future President Viktor #Yushchenko.
The UK daily update focuses on the news about kids getting military training in #Russia's schools.
Saturday was quiet, reflected in #Ukraine's daily update on #Russia's war losses
Very little equipment destroyed, but still another 650 Russian troops fertilising the ground. This could be inflated by soldiers who failed to make it across the Dnipro river in the #Kherson retreat
After more than an hour and a half, the air raid warning has been lifted for most of #Ukraine. Not a great start to Sunday morning, many still without electricity too.
I wrote yesterday evening about explosions reported in #Chaplynka in southern #Kherson region.
Later video uploaded from the town seems to show #Ukraine's forces managed to hit an ammo dump.
#Ukraine claims "two trucks of killed Russian invaders were taken to Tavriysk. 56 seriously injured were taken to hospital, of which 16 more died soon after."
#Russia says it is in control of the centre of #Opytne village in #Donetsk region.
It's less than 5km from #Ukraine held #Avdiivka and fighting continues on the outskirts.
Elsewhere on the eastern front no further claims of advancement by either side. #StandWithUkraine
#Ukraine is staying silent about what happened in #Cherkasy overnight. There were heavy explosions but not a mention today.
#Russia's war bloggers speculate they hit energy infrastructure, but no lack of power reported.
However, a number of questionable aspects:
It's inconceivable #Ukraine would release such a badly injured prisoner.
Indeed, #Ruyssia's #Wagner group virtually admits the execution and further introduces a new term "Cargo 800" - they break the legs of retreaters.
More celebrations in #Kherson today by the "90%" who "voted" in favour of union with #Russia 😂😂😂
Maybe it won't be so difficult to reclaim the rest of #Kherson?
If #Ukraine hit #Russia's gear at #Chaplynka airfield as I suspect, it's not surprising they want to avoid another #Chornobaivka. Let's hope not just equipment stays away.
You may have heard about an explosion in #Istanbul, where a suspected suicide bomber has killed 11 people.
The incident happened on Istiklal Avenue in the historic Beyoglu district of #Turkiye's biggest city.
Worth pointing out that #Russia's Consulate is on this street.
Re the previous tweet:
CNN Turk is reporting only that 11 people were injured (not killed), no official confirmation of victims.
I apologise if the initial report proves inaccurate, but I merely wanted to make the so far tenuous link to Russia.
Sadly a new aquafresh wrapper was found for the pole in #Melitopol'
Earlier I reported that #Russia's flag in the Occupied town had "disappeared"
A lot of people on the eastern front line saying it's hell right now.
Today in #Toretsk a maternity hospital and a dispensary were shelled by #Russia's forces.
Multiple loud explosions reported in #Luhansk. At least five according to local posts.
Of course authorities say air defence worked perfectly.
There is evidence of success in the sky, but from the reports of the loud decibels, it seems likely at least one rocket landed.
Already suspicion of a mass grave in liberated #Kherson
It's at the city's cemetery, but mass burials look to have taken place. Some of the graves have dates from the first two weeks of the invasion.
It's unknown how many people were buried there.
the #UK's Defence Minister @BWallaceMP has a message for #Russia and its people after yesterday's liberation of #Kherson and the whole region east of the River Dnipro.
We reach Day 260 of #Russia's war on #Ukraine. They continue to go backwards after Wednesday's announcement that Putin's troops are evacuating #Kherson region west of the river.
This is the daily thread for Thursday. Catch up on the previous 24 hrs here:
One of the biggest stories for #Ukraine is what's happening in the USA. As I type the Republicans look set to take control of the House, but with a very small majority, while the GOP looks likely to FAIL to take control of the Senate
Today's UK intel update reports on #Russia's defensive work in Occupied areas.
Even though I expect a retreat this week to behind the river Dnipro in #Kherson, liberating all of the region's territory will be very difficult because The Kremlin needs the land route to #Crimea.
It's not unusual for schools in #Russia (and #Ukraine actually) to have some elements of military awareness, including visits by soldiers pre-war, showing guns etc.
Now #Russia looks like making a new subject of military training compulsory for kids.
