Another beautiful and touching story is accomplished. #IronVillage in #Irpin officially closed today.
Danger: 🧵
Hoow it started. #Irpin had 7000 people whose houses were damaged or destroyed. City mayor @markushyn asked @Ukrzaliznytsia to help his people with temporary housing. And we are always happy to support such stories, even if that's not about our core business.
In 2 weeks we established 5 railway carriages for temporary housing in #Irpin. We paid pretty much attention to minor details. We wanted to give our residents a decent living space. Otherwise we wouldn’t give this village our trademark #iron label :)
We put there several #bikes to give people #mobility freedom. It’s 5 min by bike to the nearest railway station. And 20 min to Kyiv downtown by our city train #KyivCityExpress. I believe in bike+train mobility.
And @smelyansky_igor opened there official @ukrposhta post office box. So people could send and receive mail correspondence right at the #IronVillage. I believe that those who lost their houses should have exactly same life as others. That’s part of our #BarrierFree confession.
On weekends we had morning exercises for the whole #IronVillage with famous Ukrainian tv and sport star @pedan_s.
Our residents had free #Starlink wifi and book corner.
Different creativity classes never left our residents bored.
Best beauty service providers where proud to serve our residents pro bono.
Outdoor cinema was so cozy in the evenings. However, only movies about trains where allowed. Joking :)
And all residents got free daily delivered meals from our partners from @WCKitchen. Our #SupervisoryBoard tested those meals one day and found them delicious! Thanks, @chefjoseandres and all your team.
Sometimes mobile pizza trucks arrived at our #IronVillage and shared fresh pizza with our residents.
And one day famous Ukrainian @ChefBravo gave a cooking class for our residents. It was incredible.
And yes, our #IronVillage was #PetsFriendly. Somehow dogs and cats got along with the rat. I had a special story with this rat. @georg_ismar knows it, but promised to keep it secret.
What happened today? We moved our residents to stationary houses, provided by the city mayor and the Polish government #PolskaPomoc. They would be much better there in the winter. From day one we understood that our #IronVillage is a temporary story and must end one day.
We visited our residents in their new village today, had small farewell party and exchanged our memories about our #IronVillage. Was happy to see our residents in their new home. Also temporary so far, but better established for the winter.
The rat moved as well. Had a lovely time with my friend. You can be proud of me, @georg_ismar :)
So. Another long story about our yesterday trip to #Mykolaiv and #Kherson. Danger: 🧵
We arrived in Mykolaiv early morning. Such a great feeling to bring the train back to town first time since the beginning of the war.
My brother @chefjoseandres was already waiting for us at the station. He made a long way from US to Mykolaiv only because he promised to be here once #Kherson is free. He brought his @WCKitchen team and few trucks of food with him. And few cigars. He’s got a style.
When #russians shell our energy infrastructure, we switch to diesel locos and #KeepRunning. We always have “plan b”. Was checking today “plan b” for diesel locos - steam locos.🧵
My 2 days at #InnoTrans2022 are over. Great days, fully packed with back-to-back meetings and events. Leaving #Berlin with a heavy heart.
Warning: long🧵ahead!
I came to #Berlin right after spending 3 days in #Kharkiv. Drastic difference between constantly shelled Kharkiv and flourishing Berlin. But for me personally its much more comfortable to be in eastern Ukraine, together with my people under fire, rather than in a peaceful Berlin.
But have to throw the track to EU for @Ukrzaliznytsia. Ukraine made its choice - we head to EU, and UZ will join European railways family. This integration will take years, but there is no other way. We start #IronEurointegration.
1. Why we urgently restore infra during the war? Because otherwise we would simply stop at day 1 of the war. And thus, neither evacuation, nor humanitarian aid delivery, nor #IronDiplomacy program, nothing would work. Just imagine that.
2. Recovery occurs during enemy missile attacks? Yes. Actually our life occurs during enemy missile attacks. Already 204 days.
